Review of the Acorn Insurance, Car insurance:

Absolutely shocking customer service

1
I have had an incredibly frustrating and disappointing experience with Acorn Insurance, which I feel compelled to share. My car has been in the garage for a gearbox failure since the 26th of August, 2024, and I got it back on the 6th of September. Unfortunately, I had to return it to the garage on Thursday morning due to further issues. During this time, the garage had been driving the car and speeding on multiple occasions, which led to two black box speed warnings on my insurance. To clarify that I wasn’t driving during those dates (from 26/08/2024 to 06/09/2024), I went to my car dealership to request a formal letter on headed paper. Although they couldn’t provide a physical letter, they sent me an email confirming that the car was not in my possession during that period. However, Acorn Insurance dismissed this email, stating that "anyone could fake an email," despite the fact it came from a VAT-registered garage and a reputable dealership. To make matters worse, Acorn also refused to accept the email because the garage had been speeding in residential areas. This is despite the fact that the black box data clearly shows that the car was parked in a locked garage forecourt awaiting repairs during those times. I sent this information to Acorn Insurance on the 9th of September and did not receive any response until Friday, 13th of September. When they finally called, it was just 20 minutes before their offices closed. To my surprise, they gave me a cancellation notice that takes effect in 7 days. With only 5 minutes left before they closed, I was unable to do anything to resolve the issue, which was incredibly stressful as I am only three months away from earning a year’s No Claims Discount. I believe the way I have been treated by Acorn Insurance is completely unacceptable. From dismissing legitimate evidence to their delayed and unhelpful response, this has been a nightmare. If the issue is not resolved by Monday at 5 PM, I will be escalating my complaint to the Financial Ombudsman. Reviewed on: 14th September 2024

1. Had car insurance for Vauxhall Corsa 1.6 Diesel, approx. £2,400.00. Changed to a smaller Vauxhall Corsa 1.2 Eptrol (SO, SMALLER ENGINE), and insurance was recalculated to £200.00 MORE (£2,600.00). 2. Changed to a CHEAPER insurance car after doing research. ONLINE MECHANISM would NOT allow me to change the car online. . .in the end, cancelled car insurance with Acorn and switched to esure. 3. Have received a generalised email from Acorn about cancelling, and no indication of any refund (I had paid the year's insurance till January 2025), so am due at least 4 months refund. . . Avoid this company

I do not recommend this company, I had to pay fees of £66.00 to change the occupancy, I know it's not much, but they canceled my old policy and opened a new one without notifying me, I changed my car and address during the policy period with other companies and I never paid any fees Reviewed on: 30th July 2024

Bunch of thieves!

Bunch of thieves! Do not insure a newly passed young driver. They make you pay 2 months insurance £361.07 up front ( at the time I thought this was odd) now I know why! My son had a black box fitted and had been insured for just over 2 weeks. This morning I had an email saying they were cancelling his insurance due to 1 instance of speeding . No warning, just cancelled straight away. Why not tell us what is acceptable and what is not, there must be some leeway? They said there’s a £180 cancellation fee and an extra £47.22 to pay on top on the 2 months insurance he’d already paid for. £408.29 for 2 weeks insurance!! Daylight robbery! Their quote might be cheaper than others but they’ll take all of your cash and cancel your policy. Avoid at all costs! Reviewed on: 4th June 2024

TO HIS SUPRISE HE RECIEVED A LETTER FROM ACORN INSURANCE WHO ARE PART OF HEAVEN INSURANCE ADVISING HIM THAT HIS INSURANCE POLICY WAS CANCELLED DUE TO A ENFORCED INSURER DECISION AND ALSO ASKED HIM TO PAY £2100.00 FOR THE REMAINDER AMOUNT OF INSURANCE. HE THEN HAS COME TO ME, REALLY UPSET AND ANXIOUS HAS HE HAD DAMAGED CAR AND ALSO THE FACT HIS A YOUNG DRIVER AND HEAVEN HAVE CANCELLED HIS POLICY. TO WHERE BEGUN TO WORRY ABOUT HIS WELFARE. I CALLED ACORN INSURANCE WHO I SPOKE TO AN ADVISOR CALLED JACOB WHICH HE TOLD ME THAT THE INSURANCE WAS CANCELLED BECUSE HE DID NOT HAVE THE RIGHT COVER AS HE HAD AN ACCIDENT AT WORK. WHICH I QUICKLY INTEJECTED AND ADVISED THAT THIS IS INCORRECT AS HE WORKS FROM HOME AND THE DAY HE HAD THE ACCIDENT HE HAD SOCIAL GATHERING WITH HIS WORK COLLEGUES AND WHEN HAS FINISHED FROM THE EVENT HE HAS UNFORTUNATELY HAD AN ACCIDENT WHICH HE ACCEPTS. I WAS TOLD BY JACOB THAT HE IS GOING INVESTIAGTE THIS AND ALSO HAD RAISED A COMPLAINT ON OUR BEHALF AND ALSO PROMISED A CALL BACK FROM THE MANAGEMENT TEAM. This company, in one word, is unprofessional and does not deal with understanding and diplomacy. They added £25 extra because I was late in payment because my bank was frozen. I gave a reasonable explanation, but they only want money. I do not recommend Reviewed on: 13th January 2024

DON'T use this company IMO as they will look for any excuse in the book not to cover you in the event of an emergency. We had an issue with our oil boiler and when we needed help they told us, "sorry we don't cover oil boilers" and gave us 101 excuses not to help. They will take your money but in our experience look for ANY reason not to assist. Reviewed on: 8th January 2024
