At Smart Money People, we use what customers like you are saying about their financial products to help drive change. It can be very frustrating when you're having a problem with your building society, that's why we've created public complaints. Whether it's your main current account, or your savings, sometimes the only solution is to escalate your concerns to a formal complaint. That's where our public complaints come in - we're trying to better the way that building societies deal with complaints.

How do I make a Nationwide complaint?

Failure to stick to promises

I switched a bank account to Nationwide on the offer of £125 switching payment. Two and a half months on still not received it, despite the complaints team stating on 1/11 that I should receive it.

Catalogue of broken promises to act, overly detailed explanations about why their computer system did not automatically trigger (that's their problem not mine). Promised a call back by close of business today - not received.

Pure incompetence.

Also took out mortgage with them in 2014. Catalogue of errors which led to me screaming down the phone at them on 10.30am on the morning of completion to release the money.

Quite simply an appalling building society.

Giving up on them after 32 years

They have always been a bit backward, but their systems are just rubbish and only seem to be getting worse. Their staff while friendly enough are resigned to a "computer says no" attitude.

The bank staff worse than useless and rascists. They even kept sending letters saying we owed money when we did not as £1 or £2? When we went to the bank to sort it out (as they forced us)they refused and v rude, then sending more letters lies that we ‘owed’ money to try antagonise and try to get us tong onto their bank-the first time they did that and forced us to go visit Newcastle 2 or 3 yrs ago they refunded-subsequently they send more letter lying we owed £1 -£2 refused refunds(would affect credit rating !) We don’t even use that account for years / we even tried to close said account but they refused?! other issues also they were allowing UNAUTHORISED and ILLEGAL acess to account by a third party

Other issues ongoing with Nationwide also antagonistic abusive staff -recently after not using account for years request for card but they said fine many times but don’t send it, they’re disgusting and waste of time, hours on phone, also waste of time-their racial harassment- we closing down this account now - we want to close it abs have tried to previously, so they have to close it-not up to them to them to keep it open to harass / abuse us with

Races, breaking confidentiality law and making fraudulent claims, the notorious shameless Kingswinford branch!

We have always been treated very poorly by this branch, and reading the reviews, we are not the only ones. Their complaint procedure is sham, others state this as well. We are shaken by our experience in this branch.

We took our son to open his first account. The staff were, as races, arrogant, lazy, and unprofessional as ever. They whisper whilst looking at us or other customers. Then they will give all confidential information, like how much money you have in your bank etc through a laud speaker by which, all other customers will hear.

We asked their help to open our son's first account. The manager asked responded loudly through a loud speaker

- ARE YOU DISABLED THAT YOU CANT OPEN IT YOURSELF??

Speechless and frozen we were.

-WHAT IS YOUR DISABILITY?? Ashe showed again. Then gave us a leaflet with a bit of scribbles on and said ' YOU DO IT'.

We left humiliated and upset. The scribbles were all wrong informations, the phone number provided was not even in use. But since we were not disabled, and that they were lazy, we did open our son's account.

Two weeks later, we received a complaint letter accusing our son who never spoke these staff with bored house wive attitudes, accept giving his name and dob shyly, then sitting back at the chair out of the way, calling my son,

'YOU WERE AGGRESSIVE, INAPPROPRIATE AND MADE STAFF UNCOMFORTABLE'. Now, our son had never got of his chair or spoke, accept when asked, giving his name, and DOB. So, this incompetent and unethical people made a false allegation against our child.

We then called them and requested an investigating for this fraudulent complain. Instead, a man from complain department said 'STAFF DID THEIR BEST, YOU ARE WRONG' then hanged up.

What kind of a bank is this, we put our money in to their trust, by which they earn money, but they do not treat equally respectfully.

The staff is not trained professionalism or ethics. We are going to ombudsman and removing our bank to a place where our custom will be valued.

This bank has been one of my biggest mistakes. it provides nothing but extra stress.
The card reader is awkward and almost every other bank has moved on, they can keep you secure without the constant hassle.
The app is borderline pointless bar check balance you cant do much else not even contact your bank.
The customer service is laughable, my card has 'not been able to be verified' for about a month. the bank is useless and doesn't help or get back to me.
I have tried multiple ways to sort this myself but nothing. I literally have NO ACESS TO ONLINE PURCHASES AT ALL!
Do not use this building society the Medici bank in Florence will serve you better.

hopefully nationwide will see this and actually resolve an issue. Looking at the reviews I doubt this. If anyone sees this go anywhere else. Even Santander.
