They get you on the books first year then increase premium on renewals. A joke, up by £90 on a £250 policy. When you call they waste 2 minutes holding you on telling you how they have all these great offers and the CEO wanting to know how well they have done. You then get someone who can't tell you why its gone up so much and speculates. Go to another issuer and its less than the £250 from the previous year, I guess they are hoping you are old enough and don't understand your options to stick with them and be ripped off.

Utterly hopeless

I'm in the process of changing my car, it's actually the same car, just a newer version. Saga say they can't cover me for the new vehicle and they can't tell me why they can't cover me, so I'll have to cancel it (I only paid for a years cover a week...

I'm in the process of changing my car, it's actually the same car, just a newer version. Saga say they can't cover me for the new vehicle and they can't tell me why they can't cover me, so I'll have to cancel it (I only paid for a years cover a week ago) and arrange cover elsewhere, for which they're going to charge me £50. Utterly hopeless.

I took out a car insurance policy in February. A couple of months later we decided that we needed a better car and so decided to trade our 2 old cars in and just have one newer model car. After ringing Saga up to cancel my new policy they charged me 75 pounds admin costs for the pleasure! 25 pounds for setting up the policy which I didn't know, and 50 pounds for cancellation. Thanks Saga insurance. Please read the small print on policy before the cooling off period.

SAGA, overcharging for phone quotes by more than double

My grandma (who is 84, but well) rang up SAGA as her yearly travel insurance was due to run out, as she was only due to take one trip this year, she requested a price for a 2 week holiday. She thought it was expensive but thought it was just due to her age, so paid the £300.
She then spoke to me, I thought that this was rather extortionate and checked on online price comparison sites, where I could get the same insurance, from SAGA, for around £120.

She rang them back (within 2 hours of taking the policy out) and they refused to do anything. Their only defence was that "the policy sold over the phone had £12 million cover rather than the £10 million available online. I have also complained to them and received a very bog standard reply admitting that the £2 million was the only difference in the products

From a company specialising in the elderly, this seems very unfair behaviour. She was not renewing an existing policy, and was not given the option of a cheaper policy on the phone (who would pay nearly £200 extra for that extra £2 million cover on top of the £10 million available?!).

This seems like a very shady practice on their part, especially given a large proportion of their customers likely do not use the internet for insurance quotes.

Appalling in every way

Had an accident and at fault driver also with saga. No courtesy car allowed. Took 7 weeks to settle. More interested in my policy than dealing wit at fault policy. Communication and helpfulness atrocious.

Contemptible attitude to customer loyalty

A 35% increase in premium on renewal for no change in circumstances or vehicle. Operator declined to offer any explanation and adopted a like it or lump it attitude. I certainly won't be going back for any product from them.
