Review of the M&S Bank - Marks and Spencer, Current Account:

Farce

1
We were drawn to the account by the generous switching bonus so moved our joint account, but had we known how hard we'd have to work to get it we'd have thought twice. Pretty much everything that could go wrong did: they couldn't find me through credit search (other banks have with no probs) so we had to make a 50 mile round trip to the nearest branch to prove my identity...where they kept us waiting over an hour, because the address was slightly different on my two identifying letters...not different relevant details mind you, just one said 'Durham' and one said 'Durham, County Durham'. When I tried to explain that given the house number and postcode were the same the rest was irrelevant they talked over me, patronised me then left me unattended for ages while they went to phone someone about it..meanwhile due to the partitioned cubicle set up I could hear them greeting other customers (no privacy!) and offering them hot drinks - I wasn't offered so much as a cup of water despite being kept there much longer, which hardly seemed fair. Eventually everything was sorted and we went home, thinking our troubles were over. If only! The joining incentive wasn't paid correctly so I had to chase it up (took several phonecalls), my husband's bank card didn't work, the M&S reward scheme points didn't track properly on at least two occasions, the online banking page was often out of action...had high hopes for this account, but sadly not impressed and will be switching again soon. Fantastic customer service

I recently decided to switch my current account to M&S bank. Once I had applied for the account online, I was asked to ring them up, which I did. It took a while to get through, but once I had the phone call was just a quick call to check all my details were correct. A few days later I had an email to say I had been accepted for the account. I had to ring up again to have the process of switching explained to me, which was very helpful, and although a 15 minute phone call, was step by step to ensure I understood. Once I had signed and received all the documents in the post, I had to ring up once more to confirm I wanted to go ahead with the switch. All the way through the customer service advisors were incredibly friendly and helpful. I have to admit, I was lured in by the prospect of a £100 gift card for switching, but it has been a fantastic process from start to finish and worth it even without the gift card! Great experience from day one

I had a different bank account recently that i paid approx £15 a month for, for products i never used, so i searched online and realised that M and S were online.. I started the switch process and it was so simple and easy, the M&S staff kept me informed and always lovely and polite, ive had my new account a couple of months now, and even though ive had loads of questions etc, i have always had a lovely spoken person on the other end that is more than happy to help how they can. Great account facilities and even better - i pay nothing to have a account with them, so immensely happy overall! Reviewed on: 9th December 2015

Great Bank, Helpful Staff

I joined this bank about 18 months ago and everything has been plain sailing. Customer Service is of a high standard, and I find it easy to either go to a big store with a branch, or the little stores if just wanting to pay cash or a cheque in. I also hadn't realised when I joined that you can use the main HSBC branches to do your banking which is an added bonus. I like that they have an app to see balances, old statements, manage your details, it would be great if this could be developed to make payments too though. The switching problem was really easy, quick and efficient, and I got a £125 gift card for switching. Overall I'm really happy I switched and am in no hurry to change again. great incentive to switch

Opened this because of the 3100 gift card incentive. Have had no problems and you can use HSBC for all day to da transactions Reviewed on: 30th August 2015

great for the monthly saver account

Opened this because it it needed if you want to open a monthly saver which pays 6%. Disappointed that you cant open the monthly saver online (it has to be done by phone) but it was quick and easy to do so Reviewed on: 27th August 2015

good bank

Switched from another bank because of the gift card incentive. Application is slower than I would have hoped (some things need to be done by phone) However got my £100 gift card and the bank account is easy to use Reviewed on: 27th August 2015

Ideal for big M&S spenders

I was persuaded to sign up by switching from another current account that i ditched due to my increased spending in M&S for which i wanted to collect more loyalty rewards from my spending there. The free £100 gift card was certainly a sweetener for me and is an incentive that many of the providers are offering at the moment of a similar level.I cannot fault the application process or the time it took to open and thankfully the transfer was hassle free without problems. M&S current account offers a 6% regular saver, competitive forex rates, and a voucher for switching.

5
After looking around for a regular savings account I was drawn to the M&S current account which provides access to a 6% savings account (for one year at least). At the time I was applying for the current account they were also offering a £125 M&S giftcard for switching a current account to them. ( I think it's currently a £100 giftcard) I had an account with another institution that I was planning to close anyway so was able to use the switching service and received the giftcard about a month later. Another plus point is that the foreign exchange rates available to cardholders are enhanced compared to non-cardholders and is very competitive in the foreign exchange marketplace. Customer service is excellent, as you'd expect from M&S. Reviewed on: 26th August 2015

Great Customer Service

5
I changed to M&S current account last year after a great offer of £125 gift voucher for joining, overall I would say they are very good and have a good customer service. However I do find it very frustrating that they don't have a proper banking app, and you need to use the small calculator type device to log in - this makes checking your balance slow and tedious. Good bank account

The application process is slow. Once opened, though, the online bank is simple and easy to use, and the customer service is excellent Reviewed on: 25th August 2015
