£10 a month well spent

Our cam belt snapped 100 miles from home at 10pm on a Saturday. Myself, my wife and our three boys sitting on the hard shoulder of the M4 wondering what to do. We suddenly remembered about our new nationwide account which we'd opened only 6 weeks earlier. I had no idea what to expect so gave them a call to see if they could help us. I have to say that the service we got, for the money we pay was exceptional. I explained the situation and the first question they asked was if we had children with us. Once I told them I had a 7yo, 1yo and a 4 month old they were very understanding. They arranged a tow truck to take us off the motorway to somewhere safe which arrived within 30 minutes and took us to a local service station to ensure we had toilets etc, then arranged another vehicle to take us all home including the car. We had to wait 2 hours for this bit but the guy did come from south Wales... At each interval Nationwide called us to make sure we were all OK and to give us an update on the situation. The guys on the phone were very calming and professional and seemed to have a genuine interest in our well-being. All in all it took us 6 hours to get home but the added bonus is that nationwide also cover the cost of moving my car from home to a local garage (within 10 miles) and we also get a courtesy car for 2 days while the work is being carried out. I don't even get this level of service from the AA or my car insurance provider. For the sake of £120 a year, this is a real bargain and worth reiterating that ALL the recovery costs are covered. Add in the phone insurance, travel insurance, home appliance repairs, you'd be crazy to bank with anyone else Reviewed on: 3rd December 2016
