Absolutely awful - Run the risk of driving uninsured

1
I missed an email from Tesco requesting evidence of my no claims (no time frame given) as my father had become seriously ill and was understandably distracted, and they cancelled my policy without warning me or making any attempt to contact me via the phone number or address I'd provided them with. I only realised that my policy had been cancelled when I saw the, partial, refund on my bank statement, 2 hours before I was due to use my car and called them to check what had happened. They referred to emails I had never recieved and, when I read the text of the email I had recieved to them, they insisted that it said something else including 'you have 7 days to return your documents or we will cancel your policy'. Strangely enough they didn't want a screen print of the email I had recieved as proof. In some ways I wish I had been pulled over by the police for driving uninsured because I would like to have seen their response to Tesco's casual approach to cancelling policies. They also kept £135 of my money which included a £40 cancellation fee.....yes they actually charged me even though they cancelled it without warning...and the money I paid for RAC breakdown cover, although apparently, despite having still paid for it, I am no longer covered. Oh and if I wanted to speak to a manager about this I could expect a call back within 4 days! Thanks Tesco, excellent job of taking my money. I have now gone back to my previous insurer.
