Loyalty not important

3
I had my HSBC current account for over 21 years and during her time took out loans and stayed in credit 99% of the time. Basically I think I was quite a good customer of the bank and I even introduce them to my wife so that she could open her account with them. However this year I decided to shop around and see if I could get a slightly more favourable deal. Co-op were offering £150 to switch so I went to my bank and asked them if they would match that. They weren't interested even though they were offering £200 to new customers. I ended up having quite a long chat with somebody at HSBC customer services about the unfairness of offering financial incentives to new customers but not being prepared to do anything for existing customers of 21 years standing. In the end it seems that loyalty has no value any more, and I will probably switch from Bank to bank in the future as long as they are incentivising me to change. I think this is a shame as I would rather have continued a long-standing relationship with a bank but in the end Money Talks. Reviewed on: 2nd January 2017
