Solid performance

So far starling as a business account has been good, I can do everything I need on my phone easily, a few things in the menus aren't necessarily in the most logical of places but I found them eventually. The free transactions are certainly useful being a small business, the pop up notifications for payments are invaluable & it's all just quick and convenient. Simple and constantly listening

Starling bank being app based may not be for everyone but I strongly suggest you try it, the app layout is clean and though it could perhaps be a bit clearer in some parts everything is there. They have been making constant improvements since I joined a few months ago which now include being able to make cash payments at the post office which is great. Notifications mean I don't have to constantly check if invoices have been paid as I get told when they are, I look forward to more progress and consistent good simple service Reviewed on: 13th November 2018

Breath of fresh air

Last year I opened a 2 year fixed isa saver with Halifax and transferred in existing products from another provider. I began the process online (as an existing customer with a current account) however came up against a query quite quickly with the transfer details required therefore called up. I was quickly put through to the relevant department who took resolved my query which meant I could have continued online however as they were so quick I chose to work through the process with them over the phone. They took all the details including the maturation date of my existing product and before I knew it we were done, they also advised the closure date of my chosen product due to a change in isa limits/rules which meant another product maturing later could also be consolidated which was an added bonus, they even offered to take those details then ready to action which I felt was very proactive and helpful and they clearly knew their products and all relevant associated rules which put me at ease. The documents arrived within days confirming the product and transfer and I received regular updates confirming the transfer had been put in place with my existing provider and then once the funds were received. I literally had to do nothing more, they even added it to my online banking. I had not expected to receive any notification of interest on the product until it matured so I was pleasantly surprised when my balance increased after the end of the first financial year to show interest obtained. It was all so simple and the staff inspired confidence therefore I will definitely consider Halifax in the future for my banking needs. Good but shame about the snail mail and long reference numbers

I recently switched my current account to Clydesdale and have now been with them approximately 3 months. To open the account I unfortunately could not carry this out online I had to call up, luckily I spoke to a very helpful and polite staff member who ran me through the process ensuring everything was understood but being aware of time and not taking up more of mine than was necessary. During opening I expressed my interest in switching an existing account from elsewhere, unfortunately this could not be actioned online or over the phone however all the documents arrived to me promptly after a few days for me to complete by hand and return with copies for my records. I was slightly concerned by the long hand nature of completing forms, & the forms to be returned were not as identifiable as I feel they could be (ie in order of identifying or title as mentioned & clearly shown) which resulted in me missing one form to be returned however they got on this very quickly to avoid any delays. Registration for online banking was relatively straight forward however to log in on a PC required me to remember a long unrelated reference number which I struggled with therefore often could not check items until at home with all my documentation available or would only view limited details on the mobile app to get a rough idea. I had also read about requiring a pass code gadget to carry out transfers over £300 which was not well detailed however I have found that through the mobile app this is not needed which is positive providing everything is set up. The switch itself was carried out promptly and on the date requested, which I had thought may be a stretch with having to return all the forms by post, with no problems for any reoccurring payments. Since opening I have had no need to contact them as everything has functioned smoothly, they did contact me to check my satisfaction which was a nice touch although a bit sales call ish however the comments I had and passed on during the call were accepted and I feel happy that they will be taken on board and considered in their operations. Overall a pleasant company to deal with who carry out requests promptly without any problems (in my dealings) but currently a little in the dark ages with paper forms that could result in misread writing but they are working to improve. I have scored them a 3 as in this day & age I really would expect to be able to open an account online & action a switch over the phone at a minimum. Reviewed on: 10th August 2015
