Distressing

I was persuaded by an advisor at Lloyds TSB to start a pension with Scottish Widows. At the time I could barely afford it but it seemed sensible to start saving for my pension. A couple of years later I was horrified to discover that there was now half the money that I had saved in the account. I was upset that money I had struggled to save had been halved. I stopped payments and rang Scottish Widows who told me that there was nothing that I could do about it as it was a risk I took when I took the policy out. In the great scheme of things it was a relatively small amount of money, but money that I could ill afford to lose. Reviewed on: 29th August 2015

Easy to use, but check some of the benefits

Banking I have found the general banking trouble free. Direct Debits and standing orders are easy to set up. When I have had problems such as when I ordered something online and it did not arrive, staff were helpful in implementing a 'chargeback. Mobile Banking I find this app invaluable and very easy to use. You can check your balance when out and about, very helpful when out and about, especially near payday when you need to double check your account. You can also transfer money between account using this app and transfer money to individuals-useful when you are at work and get a call from a teenage son who has lost his bus pass, no need to log on to a computer to transfer the money, it can be done in seconds if you have a smartphone-provided you have already set this person up on your account. Internet banking Easy to use and you can search as far back as 6 years ago. Direct debits can be checked, you will be shown the last date when the payment was made and can stop the Direct Debit if you choose. Setting up a payee is fiddly as you have to use a small calculator type device that you insert your card into and follow the instructions. I keep losing this little device, however once you have registered that person you do not need to use it again you can simply log into your internet/mobile banking and transfer the money. There are benefits attached to the account , one of which is Green flag membership, however when I broke down over 200 miles from home I discovered towing was limited to within 10 miles from home and a hefty charge loomed for the remainder of the journey. I recommend that you check the small print for this. On the plus side I have just logged on to discover that there is now cashback for utility bills. Overall a good bank account and helpful branch staff. Reviewed on: 29th August 2015
