I took out car insurance with the RAC a few years ago after another company hiked up the price by 40%. The RAC hiked up the price by 47% this year (same car as before). I looked on Moneysupermarket and found that if I took out a new policy with the RAC, the price would be 40% cheaper than the quote I received for renewal. Nobody at the RAC could explain this, and when I tried to speak to a manager, I was told they wouldn't discuss this with me. I have not made any claims on the policy, have a clean driving licence and have been driving for over 40 years. Clearly the RAC have no respect for their customers and think they will gain from inertia. It's time someone stopped this terrible business practice.
