Sadly, a bike insurance is very useful in London. I recently had my ride nicked, but fortunately it was insured via Evans Cycles Insurance. The claim was very straightforward and dealt with swiftly, which helped a great deal buying a new one. There are some sensible rules regarding the type of lock you have to use (depending on the value of the bike), but these are communicated very clearly.
