Awful. Quit this bank due to dreadful service and general incompetence, and they even managed to mess up the leaving process

The ultimate problem was that they made it impossible to make payments over internet banking... i gave them 3 months to sort this out - 3 months!! Spent literally hours on the phone to them... and nothing. Takes an age to get a phonecall answered and when they eventually answer, it sounds like a bunch of work experience kids on the phones. The 'complaints department' and especially the 'complaints managers' are the worst of the lot, by some way - inability to answer questions, inability to even listen really, repeated unfulfilled promises of callbacks, just all-round incompetence. After almost 4 years with Halifax they decided there was a problem with the way the account was set up and made it impossible to set up new payees. After 5 phonecalls, literally hours on hold, repeated promises of callbacks that never came, and half a tree worth of pointless letters, they achieved precisely nothing, so i closed the account and set up with a bank that knows what they're doing. Halifax also have the longest waiting times of any organisation i've dealt with (possibly equal with HMRC), and their so-called 'complaint managers' sound like the work experience kids - they know nothing and are terrified of speaking to customers.
