American Express sales booths seem to be in many more malls these days than before in the recent 2 years. I must give kudos to how persistent some of the salespeople are, just to get anyone to sign up a card. However this is not the feature that seems to make these salespeople stand out to me and my friends. My friends and I have always been impressed by how well-groomed and professional these salespeople were, especially in comparison to those from other banks. Not too sure what / where went wrong because my friends, colleagues and I have all observed something that's commonplace across all the sales kiosks the past 8-9 months... 1. Salespeople eating away in the sales kiosks - Does Amex give proper meal hours for this group of employees? Maybe not if we seem to spot these salespeople eating away in different malls. 2. Salespeople busy with their mobile phones - I even saw quite a few of them playing Pokemon and one female was actually eating away and watching video on her phone in the sales kiosk - Has Amex lost control over these salespeople? Definitely a big drop in comparison to the standards we saw 2-3 years back.. 3. My friends and I have always thought that Amex uniforms (proper shirt and tie for the males and dress and jacket for the females) are much better than other banks. - Amex seems to be paying these salespeople really well cos quite a number of them actually wear 'H' and 'Loewe' belts. I have nothing against these belts but some buckles are even in 'yellow gold'. I suppose Amex is about getting these salespeople to portray a professional image with proper uniforms but these flashy belts just spoil the overall look. Have also seen one male (always the same tall, quite good-looking one) with his sleeves rolled up instead of down. Does he have his sleeves up for some reason cos it's so unprofessional. My friends and I have always thought very highly of the salespeople Amex hires. But the recent observations definitely casts doubts on all of us.
