Low tech, high fees. Wish we'd started elsewhere.

It's hard to pick out one or a few little things that explain my great displeasure with Barclays business banking over the past 6-10 years. I will just say that I have never had a pleasant experience doing anything with them, unlike with the Nationwide where the simplicity and ease of doing this is at times a joy. Occasionally it's possible to get things done with Barclays, but it's usually a struggle and I try to delegate the work to other people to avoid the grief. I wish we'd gone with a different bank when we set up the business. A few particular faults: Branches are overcrowded and staff often unable to help. The staff are not at fault, it's the bank's rules and understaffing that are tying their hands. Lots of charges and little extras that you wouldn't expect. Commission charges on $ and € purchases are ridiculous. We had to take another card elsewhere. Terrible website that makes doing simple things difficult. It's more set up to advertise than to complete basic tasks like paying people. The log-in pages are unreliable, built with inappropriate technology. The mobile app is also not as good as they say it is. e.g. try paying people from a long list of payees. It's like they've not actually used the app to do anything, just built a bare minimum app then put loads of money into promoting it instead of improving the user experience.
