How do I manage
my Smart Money People account?

We’ve collected the most commonly-asked questions about setting up an account and leaving reviews
on Smart Money People.

Can I leave a review without setting up an account?

You do need to set up an account and choose a username. The username will be publicly viewable.

We’re passionate about ensuring the reviews we publish on Smart Money People are genuine so that the people using them can rely on them. That’s why every review must be connected to a user account that has a real person linked to it. This protects both the people leaving and reading reviews.

Accounts can be verified by either signing up with an email address or by linking your account to a Facebook or Google profile. We do not publish reviews where an account has not been verified.

Sometimes, we may need to contact you to validate that your review is genuine and complies with our guidelines. That means we need your user account to be connected to a valid and active email address so that we can contact you directly.

Is there a maximum number of reviews that I can leave?

No, you can leave reviews about any financial product you've purchased, or experience you've had, in the last eighteen months as long as the reviews meet our User Guidelines.

If we see someone has left a lot of reviews in a very short period of time, this would be investigated. We have a number of automated and manual checks in place to ensure the reviews on our site are genuine and to remove spam. We do not share exactly what these checks are to maintain the integrity of the site.

Will my reviews be publicly available?

Yes they will. They will be shown on the site and linked with your Smart Money username.

Why can’t I see my review?

Reviews are usually published straight away. However, if you've left a review as part of voting in one of our three awards campaigns, there will be a delay in your review being published as it's important not to skew the results. All the reviews left as part of the awards campaign are published just after we annouce the winners so you'll be able to see if then.

We do also occasionally quarantine or hide reviews that are being investigated or where we've been asked by a particular company to validate that the review reflects a genuine customer experience.

Will users be able to see all my reviews in one place?

Yes. Other people will be able to click on your username to see all the reviews you’ve left. This can be helpful as it gives some context to the types of reviews an individual leaves. It can help other users make more informed decisions.

Can I delete my review?

No but you can edit it by logging into your account.

Your user account gives you full ownership over all your reviews, including the ability to update your reviews at any time and write new reviews.

Why can’t I delete my reviews?

We know that companies and products change so it doesn’t matter if your opinion of a financial service company changes. If it was correct at the time you left the review, it’s still a useful piece of information for someone who is considering this company in the future.

Can I change my username and profile picture?

Yes. Log in to your account, click on the red ‘edit’ button and update the relevant fields and then click on the red ‘update my details’ button.

Do I have to have a profile picture?

No. We will just use a graphic if you prefer not to add a profile picture.

Can I change the email and password associated with my account?

Yes. Log in to your account, click on the red ‘edit’ button and update the relevant fields and then click on the red ‘update my details’ button.

How do I see all my reviews in one place?

Log in to your account and you’ll be able to see them all together by clicking on your profile.

What if I can’t find the company or product that I want to review?

New companies and products launch all the time and we will add them to our site as we become aware of them, but we might miss some, so please let us know if we are missing a company, product or service that you would like to review.

You can let us know by using the email address hello@smartmoneypeople.com with new product or service as the subject line and we'll look to add it as soon as we can.

Can I delete my account?

Yes. Simply email us at hello@smartmoneypeople.com with your request including the email address associated with your account and we will arrange for it to be deleted. We will keep the reviews you have left us, but they will be anonymised.
