I have a combined buildings and contents policy with Swinton, I massively regret going for the cheapest option. Swinton don't actually seem to do anything, if you call them, you actually are calling a company called marker study, every part of the policy is farmed out to a different company, meaning it is close to impossible to actually get anyone to take responsibility, they all try to blame the other companies. They have been a nightmare to deal with, being passed from company to company with no accountability. Reviewed on: 30th August 2023

Hard to use app

I joined Virgin to get the free wine, most of the bottles were not very good but to be fair there were a couple of excellent wines in there. The app is not very user friendly and the interface is hard to use compared to Nationwide or HSBC for example. Customer service is so-so. all in all, they need to do a lot to improve. Weaseled out of a claim

Lazy and inept on their best days

I have a SIPP with BESTINVEST, worst financial decision I ever made. They massively increased the cost by adding a £120 yearl charge on top of their fees. The website is slow and frequently is unable to perform transactions. Avoid Reviewed on: 9th July 2020

Fairly easy to buy shares, but very expensive

I have a SIPP which I run myself. Bestinvest suddenly introduced and enormous £120 charge p.a. This is on top of all of the other fees they charge. Their customer service is not very good but not terrible, but this new charge means I am looking to move away as soon as practical Reviewed on: 22nd November 2019

Fairly ok bank let down by customer service

The account was fine but I regularly had log-in problems for online banking. Customer service were not helpful so I ditched and switched. Reviewed on: 5th November 2019

Invested in their SIPP, suddenly they whack on a massive yearly charge of £120. on top of all of the other fees and charges. As soon as I am able to move from them I will. Reviewed on: 30th July 2019

Easy to deal with

We have a fixed term mortgage and have no complaints. The staff are always polite when we contact them and although the initial paperwork was onerous, everything else was easy! Reviewed on: 20th December 2018

a farce from day one

I switched to them because Yorkshire bank had a poor online service. Compared to TSB though it was magnificent. I was completely shut out of my online account for two weeks. I live 30 miles from the nearest branch. Utter disaster of a bank, it deserves to go under and the CE should have his bonus withheld and lose his job! Reviewed on: 20th August 2018

Excellent card for shopping abroad

I like halifax, they are pretty good at in store service, and they have pretty good telephone service too. But, it is their products and online usage which makes them a cut above other banks. I used this card in the states and in Switzerland, no problems, no fees, just used and charged the exchange rate of the day! Reviewed on: 11th November 2017

Abysmal at best.

I have their home insurance, and will never, ever use them again. I had to make a claim, they took THREE days to send out an EMERGENCY plumber to fix my boiler, ( I have a toddler), so no heating, hot water, showers at all. Then they tried to weasel out of doing anything. Claim was resolved after SIX months, although they didn't pay out to cover the whole boiler, despite me having this in my policy. Avoid. They lie, they do not turn up, then lie about it. They promise that the cheque is in the post and lie about it. The worst company I have ever dealt with for insurance Reviewed on: 18th July 2017

Good first card or for poor credit history only

I got this card because of my poor credit history. I kept it for two years until my credit rating improved and then got rid of it. If you miss a payment the interest in HUGE. Reviewed on: 11th June 2017

They never reply in a timely manner

They do not do much for their fee, and getting a reply out of them is like getting blood from a stone. Try their competition, they don't give clear answers and are generally poor. Reviewed on: 9th June 2017

I needed to release some cash quickly for an unexpected expense, so went in with a watch worth several hundred pounds and came out with £70. It was fast and I knew it was not a great deal, but if you have no other choice then... Reviewed on: 9th June 2017
