Lloyds feels safe as one of the traditional banks, but has good online banking and an excellent app, plus the Club Lloyds account does give some genuine benefits to a straightforward current account.

I stick with Lloyds Business Banking because they have good online facilities (particularly as I have a Lloyds personal current account). However, they charge excessively for an overdraft - I cancelled mine - and their business savings rates are scrooge-like.

I was originally attracted to Barclaycard by Nectar points, and though these are no longer available, I have stuck with it as there have been no problems, the online account management is excellent and there are some useful balance transfer options.

The best thing about the account is paying a reasonable amount of interest on the amount of cash likely to be kept in a current account, with the bonus of a little nice-to-have gift - last year we had a magazine subscription, this year 6 free cinema tickets.
