ALARMINGLY DREADFUL COMPANY THAT STILL OPERATE? I AM NOT SURE THIS IS LEGAL...

On gathering quotes together for my impending car renewal, I went back to 1st Central because they cropped up on a site and this time round seemed to have a 5 star defacto rating. I was with them a couple of years ago. The quote that came up evaporated and no email - as promised - landed. Of course when I got hold of them a day later - they had doubled the price. For no reason. Now I have spent since June 10th - June 30th writing to them and calling them and using social media to this end too. They have - to be fair - made the odd attempt to call back but their promise to sort the issue and honour the quote they provided (that I could not but because had it not been for my screen grabs - that I had taken and filed - I would have thought that I had gone insane); though the old policy expired and still they have not made contact and enabled me to buy the policy. When I was with them a few years ago they said that there was a 'NON FAULT NON CLAIM' something or other (NO idea what) - that had suddenly landed and enabled them to add a few quid on to the policy. I have never made this call to them and there is no recall of it. It is not provable. Nothing has been provided as proof. They promised a refund because there is nothing there that enables them to add this additional charge on - yet they persist with verbally advising me about it. I would like to know if there is a name for this modus operandi - leading people in with cheap quotes that then evaporate and then no customer service that amounts to anything other than HOT AIR. JUST JOINED & NERVOUS HAVING NOW READ EXTENSIVE REVIEWS OVER THE WEEKEND

It is a little premature to write an extensive review of Tesco Car Insurance because I have just joined up and am awaiting the documentation to arrive via the post. I am a little concerned though - having now had a chance to read all the reviews on-line. It is not adding to my confidence that the email that they have sent to me confirming my insurance is a 'donotreply' one and there is no alternative email offered in order to reach them. I am especially concerned about the fact that customers say that once there is an issue ie once one has to claim - there are gargantuan issues. The fact that automatic renewal without customer approval happens - also the red alert for a dodgy company. The fact that several people have had their policies CANCELLED AND WITHOUT NOTIFICATION - and find out when the police stop them - is even more dystopian and dysfunctional. I sincerely hope that I will be proved to be worrying needlessly and that I am proved 100 % wrong in my anxieties here - and that I can re -visit this review and update it with a positive tale. The other issue that is universal and that I have umbrage with is that there is no "other information" box when one purchases policies on-line. I have had a NON FAULT NON ACCIDENT NON ANYTHING something added against my name from a few years ago, I HAVE NO PROOF OF IT I HAVE NO RECALL OF IT THERE IS NOTHING WHATSOEVER SHOWN TO ME TO CORROBORATE THIS THE CENTRAL DATABASE IGNORE EMAILS AND THERE IS NO MEANS OF CONTACTING THEM OTHERWISE. IE There is some spurious - to all intents and purposes - made up nothing against my name that I can not detail when applying for a policy on-line - and there is no means of this being flagged up when I apply on-line.
