Step Change turned my despair to hope

5
Like many others before me, despite a lifetime of financial prudence, a couple of years ago I found myself deep in debt. So easy to access new credit, I was rapidly increasing my debts. Citizen Advice recommended I approach Step Change, and after a thorough review with me they proposed a plan, which we negotiated to make it work for me. They put these proposals to my creditors, who agreed, and it is working. Slowly we are reducing the debt, and I can still live a good life. All thanks to Step Change. Reviewed on: 28th July 2022

No-frills current account

My Co-Op Bank current account provides a basic current account to receive income and make payments/ I have no overdraft facility, so if I tried to spend money I don't have it would prevent it. Excellent mobile app enables day to day oversight of the account as well as online payments, and I can use an associated deposit account as a rainy day fund. My debit card is not contactless, but I can use Google Pay in a similar way to make payments from the account. I've now had the account nearly 6 months, and no problems to date Reviewed on: 22nd July 2021

From despair to hope for the future

I was recommended to approach StepChange after getting into credit card debt and with the prospect of reduced income in retirement. Their debt counsellor discussed the details with me, calmly and unemotionally, assuring me that I was not alone, but that StepChange could agree a payment plan with me, put it to my creditors, and that a plan could be agreed that all parties could accept. All I had to do was to fulfil my side of the bargain and accept that I had already seriously worsened my credit rating.my credit rating. Since then I have reduced the debt by 1200 pounds, and lived within my means, accepting that there are some things I can no longer afford. Without StepChange this would not have been possible Reviewed on: 22nd July 2021
