Changed my expat life!

Living in Spain for many years, I have been used to being ripped off by a variety of UK banks and currency exchange shops. Revolut has changed all this. I can now transfer funds from sterling to euros with ease, I can maintain a dollar reserve for those online dollar purchases, and monitor my transactions from a superb app on my phone. It is an imaginative and brilliant answer to what has been a he problem. Occasional down times and non too rapid customer response has removed one star, but I am sure that this will improve in time. Superb! Couldn't manage without it!

I have been using the Beta version of Curve for many months now. It really is one of the most useful cards in my pocket! Indeed, I now only carry two cards - Curve and a back up, just in case! I can shift from one card to another using their excellent app and keep the real cards at home. Back up service is superb as I found out recently when reclaiming flights following the Monarch collapse. Curve dealt with it all for me - and I was using a Spanish card at the time. Highly recommended. Reviewed on: 20th January 2018

Over use of Call Centre Staff in India

1
Big improvement in mobile and Internet app, which are very good. My main irritation is over use of support staff based in India, often with poor language skills and lack of training. Charges can be high too. Not a bank that I have confidence in and I always feel that the customer is very much at the bottom of the list. Reviewed on: 19th January 2018

Good, but there are better, but a good Mobile App

I have always been lukewarm about Barclays. I guess it is typical of the big banks in that their attitude to customers is not particularly helpful or consistent. I am also constantly irritated by customer service often being dealt with somewhere in India, where in many cases I cannot understand the pronunciation. They online banking and mobile app has vastly improved, but the Apple Watch app is useless! I no longer use Barclays as my main account, preferring to use one of the new app based banks instead (Starking and Monzo). Reviewed on: 19th January 2018

Good, honest banking

I have used Nationwide for many years and it has made consistent improvements in the services that it offers to customers. Firstly, I support their mutual ethos and attitude to customers. Their online and App based banking is now one of the best, which I use at least once a day (I even get updates on my Apple Watch!) Customer service, either by phone or email, is rapid, professional and helpful. Well done, Nationwide! Reviewed on: 19th January 2018

Good, but a way to go. Ghastly card!

3
A good start, with much to recommend. Well designed app and responsive to customer requests. My only concern is whilst this bank tries so hard to be ‘cool’ it can sometimes forget in is whacky posts that money is a serious business and frivolity is not always appropriate or appreciated. Starling, for example, gets this balance right. I also detest the colour of the card which is embarrassing to use! Good start though. Reviewed on: 17th January 2018

Ghastly bank - one of the worst

1
I inherited this account since I was previously a happy Northern Rock client until they were taken over by Virgin. I tolerated them for a few years hoping they would be taken over or absorbed into another bank. No such luck. After poor service, lack of facilities and awareness that customers are important, I gave up and closed the account. Not recommended. Reviewed on: 17th January 2018

Style over substance - German focus

3
Still uneasy about this bank. Very German of course, and seems to be very focussed on German clients. Initially I had high hopes, but it has still some way to go before it can claim the success that it is after. The app is good but I guess so far it’s more a question of style over substance. Just superb!

Initially sceptical, this bank is so much better than anything that I have experienced in the High Street as well as most of the other startups! As a journalist writing about this issue, I have tried out several. Starling is by far the best! Reviewed on: 17th January 2018
