In the days when you could phone the bank to tell them you were going abroad, there was never a problem. Now they say, there's no need to tell us. However i did call Halifax to clarify charges on the card, and at the same time told them i was going to India. On arrival in India, i went to the ATM only to have my card rejected. The ATM then also rejected my Halifax debit card. By this time there was a queue behind me to use the ATM. So i went to the currency exchange and changed some British pounds. In the taxi on the way to the hotel, received two texts asking if i had attempted to use my cards. I responded to both texts and received another two thanking me for using the fraud line and that i should wait another ten minutes before attempting to use the cards again. All well and good but the system doesn't work as well as it used to and will now have to pay for all six texts.
