I found it simple to set up this account via the online banking service of my existing current account with HSBC, and I can access it on the same screen to move money with ease and check the current balance. The interest rate is poor, but I trust the bank and in the current financial climate, I found few places offering better rates. Reviewed on: 4th July 2017

Good service

Whenever I've contacted NS&I to update details, their customer service has been swift and efficient, and prizes are sent out quickly and automatically. Hard to access advice

I would appreciate less automated contact and more of a personalised experience. I found it difficult to find advice on what savings account would be best suited to my circumstances, and the website isn't as easy to navigate and compare accounts as those of other banks I've used. Transparent and good value

I took out life insurance with LV and was very impressed with their team. They were thorough, took time to explain everything and their policies and monthly premium were transparent and easy to understand. Documents arrived promptly and they've always taken their direct debit on time and correctly. Reviewed on: 28th March 2016

High APR but great customer service

I can't fault the customer service I received when taking out the card. Friendly and helpful, prompt to call back when requested and good advice on setting up and managing my account online. The APR is high, but this is because they consider customers with a poor credit rating, and provided you pay back within the interest free period it shouldn't be an issue. Easy to use

I have an online ISA savings account which I've had no problems with. It was easy to open, I feel reassured by the high levels of security needed to access the account, and they promptly pay a competitive interest rate on my savings. Reviewed on: 9th August 2015

Good customer service when needed, but disproportionately high charges

I've been with HSBC with over 10 years now, and I've always found the customer service in branch second to none. The telephone and internet services are a little more hit and miss, but on the whole good value. However, the charges placed for unauthorised overdraft/bounced direct debits are disproportionately high, and there is sometimes too much red tape - I've been unable to remove a student marker from my account since leaving university seven years ago, because no one I speak to seems able to do it.
