Great Idea

I like Invest Engine. It is low cost. The ISA is free of charge. It is simple to use - you just decide on your portfolio constituents (and the proportion of each constituent) and your portfolio remains invested in those proportions. I just wish they had a little more choice of ETFs. Overall, I think Invest Engine is a great low-cost investment platform with good customer service. I hope to invest more with them in future. Excellent

This is excellent. It is low cost and you can choose the percentage of your portfolio for each ETF you want to invest in. And there is a good choice of ETFs to invest in. It has the disadvantage that you cannot buy shares and OEICs. However, having read a lot of investing books, I have come to the conclusion index investing is the best way to invest. Other share dealing accounts offer shares and OEICs, but have fees. The fees are often lower if you are invested exclusively in shares, than if you invest in a mixture of funds and shares. For these reasons, I tend to prefer ETFs. I like Invest Engine because it makes it so easy to build a portfolio in the proportions I want, without the hassle and dealing fees every time I try to rebalance. Reviewed on: 11th April 2023

Best ISA

4
I have an ISA with IWeb. I really like them because they are so low cost (no annual charges, just a £100 joining fee, and £5 share dealing), but still have all the features I require. They are backed by Halifax, so I think they are reasonably secure. They have the shares and OEICs I want to invest in. I can place limit or stoploss orders. They have everything I want from a stockbroker, but they are very, very low cost. The only time I had a problem was when I tried to transfer only part of an ISA to them. Despite me telling them over the phone and writing it on the transfer form, they still tried to transfer all of the ISA to themselves. Luckily the brokers at the other end sorted it out for me. Now I’ve transferred my ISAs to them, they are just great. I just wish there were more stockbrokers like them, as I don’t want to put all my savings in one place. Reviewed on: 14th March 2023
