A great building society, make you feel special

I obtained a mortgage through Newbury at the age of 77, and within the last month have repaid that mortgage. During the time I have been with Newbury, they have been helpful, professional and understanding. I have spoken to some lovely helpful people near the time i was repaying the mortgage and have only praise for them. they make you feel that its special and personal to you. Initial contact was with Sarah Thompson, a calm and careful listener. Sarah arranged an appointment for us . Next day we met with manager Justine Ransom who talked us through the small print , after listening to our opening chat. Very clear , concise explanation to all points. A credit to your company. Opening Bond account online

I used myaccounts to open a fixed rate bond (29/07/26). When thinking about whether to open a bond, there was inadequate information online about how to fund it. Questions such as how long do I have after opening to fund the bond; can I add funds from more than one source or over more than one day. I was surprised at the requirement to upload identity documents, given that I was an existing member of the society and of the fact that it took over a week after uploading before I could fund the bond. I tried to fund the new bond by transferring money from my Treasure Plus account. This just gave an error response and a phone number to ring. When I rang I was told that I couldn't transfer online, but the staff had to do it. They did the transfer for me efficiently the same day, although I was surprised that no security questions were asked before accepting my request. Reviewed on: 22nd December 2023

The longest process of my life

From the time our mortgage application was submitted it took TWO MONTHS for us to get our mortgage offer. We had already sent a plethora of paperwork and documents and we would keep receiving requests for the same documents every week or so. This was the longest part of our homebuying process and we nearly lost our window of opportunity to move in to our new home before our tenancy was up. If the offer had taken even a few days longer we would have had nowhere to stay in the gap between our tenancy ending and our property completion Reviewed on: 22nd December 2023
