I guess I thought I was doing OK money wise, I often paid the minimum amount on my debts but sometimes missed a payment or two. Well the default charge was only £12 so well worth it! Then, 6 months or so ago my health suddenly took a turn for the worst and for the first time, I shared my money problems with my partner, He enabled me to see that I was was nearly £20.000 in debt to a number of credit cards, store cards and buy now pay later schemes with no where near enough pension income to properly repay the debts. Many of my cards were "maxed out" and I struggled to find the money even for food. He contacted NDL who were wonderful, they helped me prepare a proper budget and provided guidance on how to approach these companies and how to much better manage my money. I have still to resolve all my debts but NDL are there if I want further advice. I have a healthy bank balance now (something I've not had for years) and I don't buy things on credit, including buy now pay later. I can't thank NDL enough. Read more Read less

    Debtline Advice And Next Steps...

I was required to use National Debt Line (NDL) following the draconian steps by my Local Authority (LA, Leicester City Council) and council tax issue to engage bailiffs despite (a) A vulnerable adult being involved, and (b) Failures to properly carry out their statutory duties. Firstly, this is a self help service, that means that NDL will NOT deal with any debt demand for you, but they will provide you with the resources and tools with your particular circumstances and case from their resource pool. Secondly, for me the advice given by debt line was ok, but I think it needs to be finer tuned to take into account the fact that the LA’s involved was plainly showing am offensive bold two fingers to statutory processes and the rule of law. NDL’s response seemed to imply that the LA was implicitly correct, when the LA was clearly not and abusing its raw power. There was no resolution from NDL on this point, and it felt as if had to raid my life pension fund to remedy my situation which was clearly owing to acts, omissions and failures of the LA to properly carry out their statutory duties and legislation. I used the NDL resource pool, but the LA’s agents (bailiffs) simply ignored letter despite their BS code of professional conduct. In short all the bailiffs code of conduct is all a scam of caring and taking into account vulnerable agents,… all they are interested in one thing and one thing only, so long they get PAID by the LA for inflicting their unilateral abuse despite an vulnerabilities, they will inflict abuse, abuse and abuse,…simply because the LA have ultimate MONETARY power and most bailiffs completely lack any professionalism and scruples. In the end my situation was resolved by approaching my MP and the LA (Leicester City Council) covered up their acts of MALFEASANCE. Regretfully my MP did not pursue the matter any further with the LA. All in all, NDL are an excellent resource of resources from what authorities ought to do, but for me comes short when the authorities fail to comply with their statutory duties and the NDL forms of active redress which are often time limited against bailiffs coming in to dispatch you.
