Vanquis - Helpful Step Forward with Building Credit

5
I've been using the Vanquis Credit Building Credit Card for about two months now, and I can already say it’s been a solid experience — especially for someone looking to build or improve their credit score. While no credit card is perfect, this one has ticked a lot of the right boxes for me, and it’s been reassuringly easy to get to grips with. Features That Matter When I first got the card, I was approved with a starting credit limit of £1,200 — which felt generous for a credit-building card. Since then, I’ve been using it regularly for day-to-day expenses and then paying off a fair chunk (£300 or so a month). I’ve had a couple of pricier months, but so far, everything’s stayed manageable. One of the biggest positives? My credit score has already gone up. It’s a great feeling to see actual progress in just a short space of time. Vanquis reports to the major credit reference agencies, so keeping on top of payments really does make a difference. Smooth Setup & Great Support There was a minor hiccup early on when I didn’t receive my PIN in the post, but honestly, the customer service was spot-on. I gave them a call, and the rep I spoke with was friendly, clear, and sorted everything quickly. It left a really good first impression and took away any stress I had around activating the card. The App is a Standout The Vanquis mobile app is one of the best bits of the whole experience. I check it almost daily — not because I have to, but because it’s genuinely well-designed. It’s easy to see what’s been spent, how much I owe, when the payment is due, and how much interest I might be charged (if I didn’t pay in full). Everything’s clear and upfront, and it makes keeping on top of things much easier. Transparent and Fair I haven’t come across any unexpected fees or charges, and the terms were clearly laid out from the start. The interest rate is higher than average, which is expected with a credit builder card, but if you’re making regular payments and avoiding carrying a big balance, it’s manageable. So far, I’ve avoided any interest altogether by paying most of it off each month. Things to Keep in Mind One of the only real “drawbacks” is more personal — I sometimes feel like I could be managing the card even better. It’s easy to spend more than planned when you’ve got available credit, so a bit of discipline goes a long way. This isn’t a card to treat like free money — but used responsibly, it’s a genuinely useful tool. Final Thoughts If you’re looking to build or repair your credit score, I think the Vanquis Credit Building Credit Card is a great place to start. It’s easy to use, the support team are helpful, and the app makes staying on track really straightforward. In just two months, I’ve already seen progress on my credit file, which speaks volumes. Would I recommend it? Absolutely — just make sure to use it sensibly and you’ll get a lot out of it. Reviewed on: 22nd April 2025
