Monzo. The most devious, incompetent bank in the UK.

Monzo are the most devious, incompetent user unfriendly customer service business I have ever dealt with in my life. Their security and anti-fraud policy are pitiful, and they have no interest in resolving issues. I was a loyal customer for 4 years. I had a paid current account and monzo flex credit card. I got defrauded on the card. Dealing with Monzo was excruciating. You cannot phone them, only chat on their app and they don't do real-time. There are one, two, four hour gaps in communication. You could be talking to someone, then they log off, and you have to start with someone new. I have never experienced such poor service from a bank in this regard. After a full week of wretched support, chat conversations over 12 hour days and following all their recommendations to reinstall app and reset account, I got stung with an apple pay set-up request and defrauded by £1800. Another week, and Monzo's response was that i was the only person who could have authorised the payment, so they would not refund the fraud. I then got a message on the app saying they were closing my account, and they expected payments to me made on the amount defrauded. I reported Monzo to the financial ombudsman, who found in my favour and I got the money back with a small amount of compensation that was not worth it for the amount of time I spent dealing with the issue. The victim support team told me that they see loads of the same type of issue with Monzo and their social media is full of posts from people who experienced the same appalling treatment I did, normally over fraud transactions that Monzo refuse to recognise. I would never use or recommend Monzo the pretend bank. They are the worst organisation I have ever dealt with, period. Avoid like the plague. If you have any issues at all, Monzo will throw you under the bus. Reviewed on: 4th March 2025

Frontrunner for most ethical, competent bank in the UK.

I can bank online and with the app. Triodos phone support is UK based. Refreshing ethical approach to banking and the use of, and the generation of money. I can be sure that my money is not being used by Triodos for product, services or investment vehicles that are not in line with my beliefs. I am a long term customer and they are my main bank account. I have never had a problem in relation to their products or their services. Always find customer service to be pleasant and reasonable to deal with, unlike some unethical, chancer fake banks like Monzo. Reviewed on: 4th March 2025

Ethical, customer focused banking

I've been with Triodos a few years now and it has been a good move away from the main players. I'm happy with the customer service, and I'm happy knowing my money is being used in as ethical way as possible. There's Internet banking, apps and they also have ethical ISAs, and other investments available too. One thing missing is a credit card, but the service with everything else is great. If Triodos win here, it is richly deserved, they are ahead of the curve. Reviewed on: 6th April 2023

Ethical and competent.

I transferred my main account to Triodos a few years ago. All direct debit and standing orders came across with no issues. I feel better my money is being used ethically and the customer service is excellent. Everything can be checked online and on the app. security is tight as well as you have to use a keypad to authorise a lot of items. Also provide options for ethical investments. Superb service and ethical to boot

I changed from a less ethical provider to Triodos a few years ago. The direct debit transfer worked flawlessly.even provide a recycled plastic bank card. I have online banking and the app. They do everything I require for my day to day banking. There is also phone support. I am very happy with the full suite of ethical products Triodos provides and the great service. Reviewed on: 18th April 2021
