Review of the Post Office, Credit Card:

Easy, efficient, and handy

5
I've been very impressed with my PO credit card. I got a long 0% deal, which was very useful at he time, and have found their service easy and efficient, quick to set up, and well organised. They have an app for your phone which makes it very easy to make payments, and keeps you informed of the figures and payments etc, and they also send an email once a month reminding you of payments due. Overall, easy and efficient - recommended! Reviewed on: 15th August 2017

Unproblematic, but no website/online options

3
I've had my West Brom mortgage for more than 10 years now, and have always found it entirely unproblematic. They are helpful and friendly over the phone, and their paper correspondence is always clear and timely. In general, no problem at all. My only complaint is that they still have no facility to manage your mortgage and payments online - there is no online option at all, which seems very retro (putting it mildly) for 2017! I know other mortgage companies make it easy to make payments and keep an eye on the figures online, and it would be very helpful to be able to do that. So ... in general, an easy company to deal with, but very old-fashioned! Reviewed on: 15th August 2017
Review of the Teachers' Pensions, Pension:

Not as good as it was!

4
A teacher's pension is good, in comparison to other (non DB) pensions, but the new version is far inferior to the original final salary scheme I signed up to years ago. I am now no longer able to retire until state pension age, which delays my retirement plans by 7 years! The website is not too bad - it cannot predict accurately the pension of someone who is on both schemes (both Final Salary and CARE), though, which will be many people since the recent switch to the CARE scheme. Other thann that, it's quite easy to log in and keep an eye on how your pension is growing over time, and that is much better than the old annual paper statement we used to receive. On balance, I would recommend anyone eligible to sign up for the TPS - it still trumps most private and employer pensions, and anyone who can do should certainly not hesitate to join. New Regular Saver

5
I recently opened my first Regular Saver account with First Direct, and was impressed with their efficiency and the ease of opening the account. It showed up almost immediately in my list of accounts on the mobile banking app, and has been an extremely smooth process. The interest rate is good too! Highly recommended! Excellent reliable service

5
I have banked with First Direct since they started, and have never - in more than 20 years - had anything less than top quality service. They answer the phone quickly, their phone operators are always friendly and highly competent, their account security systems are rigorous yet not too onerous for the customer, and they are highly efficient in sending statements, text balances etc on time. More recently, their online and mobile facilities have been introduced and, typically, work extremely well without glitches. I cannot recommend them highly enough. Reviewed on: 11th September 2016
