Review of the Newcastle Building Society, The Newcastle Big Home Saver:

Great face to face customer service

I was informed that Newcastle Building Society would no longer be accepting standing orders, so I tried to set-up a different instruction. Unfortunately something went wrong and a subsequent payment I made to them was rejected. However, when I went into the Linthorpe Road branch, J Roberts was very helpful and dealt with my query quickly...still not sure why the payment was rejected though! Reviewed on: 29th December 2014

Standing order set-up got lost along the way

3
I went intro branch to hand in a standing order request form. After 2 weeks it still hadn't been set-up so I called up HSBC. They could see the scanned form, but weren't sure why it hadn't been set-up...so they did it on the phone. Solved the problem, but not something that I should have had to chase! Online experience is great, but the call queue times are epic!

3
I really like the ease of the online service. BUT when you need to call them the call queue time can be pretty long. When chasing up the application I spent 35min on hold. Gave up in the end...frustrating! Reviewed on: 14th October 2014

Opened an account with them as the rate was good...didn't last for too long though

3
I opened an online account with them as they were offering a good rate on a 30 day notice account. But then it dropped. I know most accounts have dropped, and it's getting harder to find somewhere to earn any decent savings rate! Reviewed on: 8th October 2014

Applied for this card to get 3000 free points aka 15000 BA Avios

4
Easy application process (30 min call) and then a few docs to sign in the post. Spent the minimum required to get the free points...good service, but for some reason still prefer my AMEX! Reviewed on: 4th October 2014
