Thieves

I overpaid my debt by 130 pounds and it has been 3 months I am waitng for refund. They keep telling me its in process, and today I found out it is impossible to transfer back to overseas account. So, I was able to repay the debt every month from overseas account to SLC but they, out of a sudden, are not able to transfer the overpayment back to overseas account. Thieves!!! shocking customer service bad communication

Looking around what other people have to say about the SLC I have to admit that it makes my skin crawl just going over this again in my mind. These youngsters need a re training OR start looking for jobs that are suitable to their lack of ....pretty much everything! from customer service, to communication, to support to advice an absolute 0. Their department needs to be 'incorporated' with a real adult world and give us a break been over 17 years of age. Unbelievable!! Reviewed on: 21st September 2021

Shocking service

1
I've never had such consistently bad service from any company as I have had with SLC. In order to prove that I had resigned from a job and was unemployed, I had to submit 14 different pieces of evidence and go through multiple phone calls. After all that, they incorrectly changed my status to 'self-employed'. The online system for registering as working overseas makes no sense. The first question asks 'when did you leave the UK?', yet if you're moving from one overseas job to another, there's no advice on how to answer that. The lack of a functioning online system and email service, meaning phoning is the only option, is really challenging when you work abroad. It feels like you're further penalised for working abroad (and out of the PAYE system) by ridiculously low repayment thresholds, for example paying back a % of everything I earn over £7000. I went through the painful process of changing my overseas job details this month, which seemed relatively pain free compared to previous interactions. I then got a letter in the post with the amount I'll have to pay back based on the evidence I have given. I then got a letter the day after specifying a different amount to pay back, stating that this was because I had given no evidence (incorrect). Last year I got a letter outlining my remaining balance, which was different to what showed online for the same date. I would give 0 stars if I could. I guess this shows what happens when there is no competitor in the market. The government should really take some responsibility for this, as they endorce/force students to use this company. Why oh why charge intrest

So I thought it was bad enough having to pay £9000 a year for tuition and £4000 for maintenance (which doesn't even cover accommodation) but they want to charge interest on top of that. Utter bullshit Reviewed on: 21st July 2017

Absolutely awful

The amount I owe is absolutely ridiculous and it just gets worse thanks to compound interest Reviewed on: 21st July 2017
