Review of the Cedar Tree, Travel Insurance:

Good for people with health conditions

5
I’ve developed a health condition and tried to flag this up to my old travel insurance provider. They were completely useless and wanted to charge me a huge amount to retain my cover. Cedar were much better value and they’re customer service is infinitely better Reviewed on: 5th June 2023

Very upsetting and disappointing experience

I am very upset and disappointed in Cedar Tree Insurance. We had to contact them due to a cancelled ferry on the return leg of our summer holidays and promptly filed an accurate and timely claim in the beginning of July. We were asked for paperwork which we dutifully sent and after waiting a couple of weeks we were told a payment would be sent to us on receipt of the email if everything was deemed ok. I was unsure of the breakdown of the payment and sent an email to ask for clarification, but before it was even out of my inbox the payment was already in our bank account. We had chosen to pay a premium for "travel disruption" which promised to cover any additional expenses in the event of cancelled travel which applied to us in this circumstance, however this hadn't been mentioned and the amount sent to us didn't seem to have included these. I received no reply from Cedar Tree and so I sent a follow up which wasn't replied to until 24th August. This response said that my claim had been reviewed and these expenses were not covered (despite this being detailed in the premium we paid for). I therefore disputed it again. A week later, I was met with the same response which I queried yet again. The reply this time came swiftly and told us, without apology, that another review had been made and we had been overpaid in the initial payout and that nearly £400 was to be paid back to them asap, and detailing the bank account details to use. We were very shaken by this. I went back to them to question this and they then said there had been an error and it wasn't £400 but actually £300 due back! It is also worth noting here that despite being slow to answer my emails, the Cedar Tree phoned my around twice a day during this period in an attempt to get this money out of us. At this point my trust in the company has completely gone - I don't know who to believe, their calculations are incorrect every time I speak to them and it feels like they are plucking figures out of the air and hoping that we go away. At the date of writing we have had no response from them since 6th September. This has left us feeling vulnerable, shaken and with a dark cloud over what should have been a lovely family holiday. Not only that, but we've been made to feel as if we are the ones in the wrong. Please get travel insurance elsewhere and save yourselves the heartache of having to go through what we have. Dont make a mistake when making a claim

1
don’t make a mistake when claiming Everything was good until I tried to make a claim. Cedar was going to pay my claim and during the process of filling out bank details two of the numbers of the bank account transposed the wrong way around and the money due was paid into the wrong account. Despite telling them almost straight away they had a very poor attempt of claiming the money back so I never received my money and someone else took my money. What’s frustrating is there is no checks so if you make a mistake it’s your fault and nothing they can do as they won’t pay a claim twice. Not happy as it was a lot of money. They have a good range of products and it is very easy to see which one will suit you for each trip. They also have an excellent range of benefits and rewards. Reviewed on: 27th August 2023

Painless claims process

I had to file not one but two claims after a recent trip and both were paid out within days. My renewal comes up in a couple of week and it's cheaper than last year. Very happy with Cedar Tree will stay with them. Reviewed on: 22nd August 2023

Worst customer service ever alongside KLM

1
Hello, We used your so called “company” for insurance services for travel. We will leave same review we gave KLM ie no stars on trust pilot for you and worst ever service we have received. Wait over 5 months and don’t get proper money back or comms. Chasing all the time for lies told and empty promises. Disgrace and robbing company using covid as a poor excuse for not answering or replying or dealing with matters. Take the money then no service after. We will leave bad reviews on all forums and travel sites you are listed on to warn other customers of the non existent service. Claim no. was 21538822 # Reviewed on: 12th July 2022

Poor

Purchased travel insurance policy via Top Cashback and was happy to pay that little bit more for the policy on the understanding that I would receive cashback from Top Cashback as an incentive. Cedar Tree, I am told by Top Cashback, refused to acknowledge the fact that I had gone through Top Cashback (which I did) and so refused to pay cashback. Very disappointed. NO REFUND, LACK OF SUPPORT, BETTER GO SOMEWHERE ELSE

1
I have been with Cedar Tree for around 3 years now, not having to claim until half a year ago when my trip to Mexico was cancelled because of COVID by the airline. The airline only gave an option of a voucher which wasn’t a choice for me as wouldn’t know if I can travel soon, and when the airline goes bust you can’t do anything with it. But Cedar Tree made a point there that I should take the voucher and they won’t refund me even if I can’t travel next year. I have a Travel Disruption cover for situation like this but apparently it doesn’t work in this case. Not sure really when it works. In case of taking a voucher, I wouldn’t be able to seek assistance anywhere else, like my bank, Pay Pal, etc. so thank you for a great advice Cedar Tree. Also, to add to this, The European Commission called it unlawful for only giving voucher option and not a full refund by the airline (quote below), but Cedar Tree still advised to go with that option as they wouldn’t refund me if I was offered a voucher to use it later in the year. (btw, I have it all in emails). Before Cedar Tree even starts considering your claim, you need to seek refunds yourself with other sources like your credit card, Pay Pal or directly with the company. With my trip, I managed to get better support with Pay Pal, booking.com, and eventually my bank. Cedar Tree response at that time still was that I should get a voucher. I will consider other insurance companies for the next term. And strongly advise if you are thinking of choosing Cedar Tree. ‘The European Commission is now to write a letter to all EU member states reminding them that airlines should be sanctioned if they violate passenger rights – including by refusing to offer refunds. An EU official said: ‘The law is clear. Passengers should be able to choose between a cash refund or other funds of reimbursement such as a voucher.’ Reviewed on: 16th August 2020
