With so many banks to choose, why even consider HSBC

2
I applied for an HSBC Visa Credit Card and it was the most unnecessarily complicated application you could imagine. Furthermore, I then applied for an additional user card which was even more difficult. I used the card for just one transaction and have now shredded the card. Trying to set up a direct debit for the repayments was sooo time consuming, so I decided to pay the card off and even that was hard work. I then tried Barclaycard and the experience of applying and setting up payments was an absolute breeze. I imagine the only reason one would consider using HSBC is because you've always been with them and don't know any different. Reviewed on: 1st December 2024

Don't keep me informed, don't seem to care

Completely impersonal experience. they keep stopping my card from working without telling me because of security checks, and then it is difficult to get it re-established. The staff do their best, I think they are outsourced, but it is just a dispiriting experience dealing with them. Reviewed on: 12th March 2021

Nightmare for balance transfer

So, you can't transfer from another card until you can log on, and you can't log on until you get an activatation code/card reader ( no sign after two weeks) and if, like me, you have no mobile signal, then you are stuffed. Of course you don't find this out until you have spent ages getting a telephone activation code (20 mins) and set a ridiculous number of passwords. Ok, so you can do a transfer over the phone. First call took 40 mins to be told that I couldn't do the transfer and that I had to call Sainsburys. Another 25 mins on hold, and after they stopped laughing, was told that HSBC had to initiate (well I knew that anyway didn't I?). So back we go to HSBC, and after 1 hour and 40 mins (yes really) the transfer is done. So to sum up, if you have nothing better to do than waste your time and you have a mobile signal and like nothing better than setting interminable passwords/security questions then HSBC is for you! Nice product to improve your credit score.

Product born to build a credit score in the UK. Difficult re paying option. Reviewed on: 3rd December 2018

Not too good I suppose

When I had an issue with my credit card some months ago, I tried to call many times and no one ever respond. Later on whenever I call just as I am about to connect to advisor the call fails. The customer service could be better. Reviewed on: 13th July 2017

Can't see why people choose these

Credit card rates are all pretty similar. I got my credit card with HSBC as I have my bank account with them, but don't use it anymore as there are better cards out there - ones that offer good benefits like cashback or points for airlines...look around. Reviewed on: 20th July 2015
