Thieving Barstuards

Try to rip you off in pawn broking

Ripped me off

Found an item of gold in the street and took it to police lost and found. After the requisite number of days had passed I enquired if it had been claimed....The answer was no, so I exercised my right to ownership. Took it to Ramsdens to cash it in as scrap. Employee asked me what I wanted to do with it....I explained I wanted to sell for scrap value. She weighed it and offered an amount "Would xx amount be ok?" Seemed to be an offer presented in quite an odd way. "If that's what the item's worth at scrap value then yes, ok?" Takes the money, but I noted the reading on the weighing scale as it seemed a bit low compared to what I had expected. Got home and researched the gold prices...... The cheeky sods had actually paid one third of the actual value! One third of the scrap price as stated on their own advertising! Didn't go back though, as I had (foolishly) accepted the offer and done the deal..... BUT...... it left a bad taste in my mouth. They could have been fair and offered the market value as advertised by themselves, but they chose to rip me off. I will never ever deal with this company again, and I would advise anyone else to avoid! Reviewed on: 24th October 2020

Do not look after your previous jewellery!!!

Please be warned about this company if thinking of pawning your precious jewellery items with them. They do not look after it, it is bunged into a plastic bag and dropped, knocked about and will very likely get damaged. I pawned with them many times due to hardship and have had damaged, bent items returned to me, final straw was a diamond came out of one of my rings, it was in the shop assistant's hand, could've got lost!! Also a platinum ring, very very expensive, was scratched as though it had been worn for years, it had never been worn - well, not by me!! Disgusted with this company, they take no responsibility for anything either, if you complain, they always have some excuse 'must have been like this already' etc. Please beware of entrusting this place with your gorgeous expensive jewellery, the interest alone is massive and should be a guarantee of safety, it's not, they don't care and their customer service is nil! Terrible company with poor morals.

Awful place, avoid at all costs. Very low price paid for gold and the staff seem to not have a clue about the stock they sell. Was told we only buy "decent watches" when they were offered a very high end brand and pay £5 a gram for gold when others pay double that. Do not go there you will be disappointed. Con merchants

No wonder they are successful they are modern day dick Turpin they offer as little as they can get away with for scrap gold or silver they should be closed down offered a women in front of me £6 a gram should have been £480 offered her half of that my turn offered me £13.50p for 92 grams of scrap silver the only to get right price is to consult bosses but they staff are told to offer as little as possible and I can prove it do not touch this firm and make them even richer Reviewed on: 17th April 2019

DISHONEST

I took a 22k gold necklace to the G77 branch to sell. It weighed 10 grams. I was offered £80 for it. When I declined they increased it to £120, which I declined. I knew that the market value for scrap 22k gold was approx £27 per gram. They acknowledged that it was 22k and told me the price was £9 per gram. Oviously lies and I see that they obviously deceive many customers and should be reported! Reviewed on: 18th October 2018

Take your gold elsewhere to sell

I took some gold jewellery into Ramsdens Pawnbrokers in Clydebank to sell. One item was 18ct gold and weighed 14g, the other item 9ct gold and weighed 6g, (both fully hallmarked) was offered £100, when I refused she then offered £150, then £200 in a matter of seconds! I took my items away, later for insurance purposed I had one of the items valued, it valued at £2500. I realise this is what it would cost you to replace the item new but what a difference - £100 I was first offered!!! Reviewed on: 6th March 2018
