Review of the Ageas, Home Insurance:

One of the larger household insurers and one of the worst in my experience

1
I had no deliberate intention of becoming involved with Ageas but I made the mistake of going to Saga over 50 in the mistaken belief that they would look after me. Why Saga act as a broker for Ageas I know not but at 54% paying our on claims which is what I read, Ageas is not keen on paying claims if it can possibly squeeze out of doing so. After Christmas 2022, January provided some really heavy days of rain and rain and water seeped into the lower storey corridor of my three stores house that has no history of flooding. I tried to claim for a damaged floor carpet but an assessor was sent and he refused to accept the water regression as being due to excessive rainfall during a storm, The claim was repudiated as being more likely to wear and tear than storm damage. I tried to renew my household insurance when due for renewal in April 2023 but the policy renewal was increased from £351 to a figure that was more than double this sum, I tried to look elsewhere using Go Compare which I found to be a good online search facility and Admiral plus other insurance companies were identified as inexpensive options for Household insurance. I tried to insure with Admiral but I was not able to do so as Aegeas had registered an unclosed claim on CUE which is a little-known online database where insurance companies flag up info about anyone who makes a claim whether legitimate or otherwise. I was told by Admiral that they would insure me if Ageas agreed to mark my claim as closed. This should not have been a problem as Ageas had made it clear that my claim had been rejected and was therefore dead. Ageas refused to mark the claim as closed on the CUE electronic database as I had the temerity to complain of their service vis: more than doubling the renewal quote and leaving me uninsured for ten days. Eventually, Admiral helped me out by charging me a bit extra for the black mark of an incident being logged against mY name and I suggested an additional excess of £1000 against flooding. Admiral was an OK firm to deal with OK but they had been spooked by Ageas who provided appalling customer service and definitely made it very hard for me to obtain household insurance elsewhere. Thanks for nothing to Ageas and likewise no positive thanks to Saga who placed me in the hands of Ageas Reviewed on: 27th April 2023

I have been waiting for hours with music and nobody answer my call! What is the point of an insurance if they do not take claims! I will be taking this to a legal matter now. Reviewed on: 3rd January 2023

No answer on phone every time I call

1
I have tried for days now to try and contact Ageas for a home insurance claim and every time I ring there is no answer. The music is terrible and nobody called me back. I have used the chat bot and that is a waste of time as well as just gives me the numbers and I have been ringing already and they don’t answer the phone I am absolutely sick and will never use this company again waste of bloody time Reviewed on: 28th December 2022

Evil , inhuman and unprofessional

I had a natural disaster and phoned them for a claim. I Was ignored, treated so poorly. No one visited the site but the refused the claim just by bracketing the area I live as poor environment but it wasn’t poor environment when they continuously dip their dirty hands on my money every month. They are better and cheaper home insurances out there so no one should go near these criminals. Reviewed on: 29th June 2022

No communication after Storm Damage

1
After the storm on 18 Feb Ageas requested photographs and 2 estimates. After supplying them Ageas said they needed to send a loss adjuster. The loss adjuster said he was not required as Ageas had requested estimates. Ageas never reply to communications; the house requires over 8000 pounds worth of work, money I do not have; Ageas simply do not communicate. Avoid this company. Went via Homelet and today found that Ageas are underwritten by Tesco! Reviewed on: 12th April 2022

Appalling

1
Having recently suffered Storm damage to our roof, the Ageas surveyor told us that they would not meet the costs of repairs, as we had 'failed to maintain our roof'. Over the past few years, we have replaced the soffits, facias & gutters; had the end/edge tiles professionally secured and repaired the end ridge tile - so how does this constitute a failure to maintain? I asked Ageas to review their decision but didn't receive a reply. Reviewed on: 11th March 2022

Tree branch fell on my car port

A tree branch fell on my car port in July 2021 my clam did not get sorted out till December 2021 and they turned our clam after waiting nearly 5 months. Don’t go with this company they are a complete JOKE. Reviewed on: 17th January 2022

Twice gave wrong information

Ageas underwrites Homelet Landlord Insurance. After a severe storm, water came in through the bathroom extractor fan duct and damages felt, battens and bathroom ceiling. I have full accidental damage cover with Homelet, so contacted them with a claim which they passed on to Ageas. The storm was not severe enough for storm damage and twice Maxine from Ageas wrote back to me to say had not got accidental damage insurance, even though my policy clearly said I had. After phoning Homelet to be assured I had indeed got accident damage, I re-contacted Ageas, who now want a lot of details, estimates and photos, and the last house inspection report. They do not acknowledge receipt of emails, and so I am left paying out of my pocket at the moment and just hoping my claim will be met. I will be contacting the financial ombudsman looking for another company if it is not. Reviewed on: 17th January 2022
