Home Insurance for Grade II listed House in Port Sunlight Village

Ageas were very happy to insure my Grade II listed house in Port Sunlight Village, The Wirral, unlike most of the high street name Insurers. Competitive pricing and super helpful on the phone. Would highly recommend them. Reviewed on: 24th August 2023

Had to take out home insurance for a new build property. Was told I needed to get it from Ageas. They are quite pricey, could be because the house was brand new. Next year I will shop around. Reviewed on: 21st July 2023

Started out great but quickly became a shambles.

I requested to put in a claim on Saturday 8th July 2023. After speaking with the claim handler Rowan, and providing photos of my iPad, I was advised that he was happy with my claim along with the evidence submitted. I was then told that he would be putting forward a cash settlement for my item and that all that was left to do was for his manager to sign off on the release of funds on Monday (10th July). After having no contact following that I called up on Wednesday (12th July) and spoke to a lady called Jess who assured me that everything that needed to be done was complete and I just had to wait for the team leader to release the funds. Due to needing my iPad for work and confident that I would receive my pay out in the next few days I pooled my funds to purchase a new one. This afternoon I received a call from Rowan advising me that my claim was no longer being paid out and that I needed to speak to another company to verify the damage, the damage that I had already provided evidence of to Ageas. He couldn't tell me how long it will be before this company is able to speak with me nor how long the process will take or whether I'm even going to receive the payout I've been assured I would receive by 2 separate members of Ageas staff. Nothing was mentioned to me about having to deal with a third party company during either call and I was told by both Rowan and Jess there was nothing further I needed to do but wait. I'm nearly £1500 out of pocket as I'm unable to cancel the order I've placed for a replacement and have no guarantee I'll even be reimbursed as promised. The whole situation is quite disappointing and doesn't fill me with any confidence in Ageas or for the process going forward. Reviewed on: 14th July 2023

One of the larger household insurers and one of the worst in my experience

I had no deliberate intention of becoming involved with Ageas but I made the mistake of going to Saga over 50 in the mistaken belief that they would look after me. Why Saga act as a broker for Ageas I know not but at 54% paying our on claims which is what I read, Ageas is not keen on paying claims if it can possibly squeeze out of doing so. After Christmas 2022, January provided some really heavy days of rain and rain and water seeped into the lower storey corridor of my three stores house that has no history of flooding. I tried to claim for a damaged floor carpet but an assessor was sent and he refused to accept the water regression as being due to excessive rainfall during a storm, The claim was repudiated as being more likely to wear and tear than storm damage. I tried to renew my household insurance when due for renewal in April 2023 but the policy renewal was increased from £351 to a figure that was more than double this sum, I tried to look elsewhere using Go Compare which I found to be a good online search facility and Admiral plus other insurance companies were identified as inexpensive options for Household insurance. I tried to insure with Admiral but I was not able to do so as Aegeas had registered an unclosed claim on CUE which is a little-known online database where insurance companies flag up info about anyone who makes a claim whether legitimate or otherwise. I was told by Admiral that they would insure me if Ageas agreed to mark my claim as closed. This should not have been a problem as Ageas had made it clear that my claim had been rejected and was therefore dead. Ageas refused to mark the claim as closed on the CUE electronic database as I had the temerity to complain of their service vis: more than doubling the renewal quote and leaving me uninsured for ten days. Eventually, Admiral helped me out by charging me a bit extra for the black mark of an incident being logged against mY name and I suggested an additional excess of £1000 against flooding. Admiral was an OK firm to deal with OK but they had been spooked by Ageas who provided appalling customer service and definitely made it very hard for me to obtain household insurance elsewhere. Thanks for nothing to Ageas and likewise no positive thanks to Saga who placed me in the hands of Ageas Reviewed on: 27th April 2023
