Review of the Bank of Scotland, Car Insurance:

BANK OF SCOTLAND FOR CAR INSURANCE? NEVER AGAIN!

1
I had an accident in my car, which was my fault (first accident in 40 years) and my car was written off. I called BOS who put me onto the ACTUAL insurers, who in turn put me onto the company to arrange pick up of the car. Who then put me onto the person who was collecting it. Four different companies/entities. I tried to insure my new car with BOS but it was four times the price, even with my protected no claims of 9 years (which actually was 19 years since a no fault criminal damage in 2005). I have been told that even though my car was written off, I still had to pay the policy until the renewal date nine months later. DO NOT USE BANK OF SCOTLAND CAR INSURANCE - they are not insurers, they are brokers and wash their hands of you in the most awful of times. I wanted to give them no stars but had to give them one to be able to write this review. STAY CLEAR! Reviewed on: 17th September 2024

Avoid for car insurance

1
I took out car insurance with Bank of Scotland. Unfortunately a patient at the hospital where I work reversed into my car, and despite her and her insurance company admitting full liability (in writing), Bank of Scotland processed my notification of incident incorrectly and put the whole claim through on my insurance - it took about 30 phone calls to unhelpful staff over 4 months with no resolve. I finally submitted a formal complaint, and they breached the period for reply so I threatened to escalate to the Ombudsman service at which point they finally sat up and admitted they had completely messed up (admitted it was a non-fault claim and finally refunded me the £450 excess I had to pay and took it off my record as a fault claim). I have rarely been so stressed in my life. The service was appalling and really disappointing. Reviewed on: 23rd August 2023

You are not insured with BOS as you think

1
I thought I was insured with BOS. However when I had to make a claim I found out that BOS are just a broker even thought the policy looks like its with BOS. You are actually insured with a two bit company in Dorking called Sabre insurance who will argue over the value of your car and do anything to avoid paying out. ( Google them!) Fees Fees Fees

I was annoyed that the insurance company charged me a £55 cancellation fee when my car broke and needed to be sold for parts. The cancellation mechanism was 100% automated and so £55 is not justifiable in my opinion. Reviewed on: 31st August 2022

Abysmal customer service

1
I was charged an admin fee for an error on my online account which was not of my making. The complaints manager was both confrontational and would not listen to reason. I would not use this insurance company again. Disappointed and angry!! Reviewed on: 10th November 2021

Great rate for car insurance with added bonus gift card

Bank of Scotland turned out to be the cheapest for my car insurance with the added bonus of a gift card thrown in! Reviewed on: 12th July 2020

coned into renewing my policy

1
After receiving my renewal quote which was £110 more than the previous year, I compared other insurers who were a lot cheaper. I contacted the bank of Scotland insurance and over the phone they could drop it to almost what it had been previously. Now one month later they have taken the full amount quoted in the renewal. Its 2 days after my policy expired and they say they cant change it as they could not offer me any cheaper. I've been lie to and seriously angry. please stay clear of this company.
