Review of the Buckinghamshire Building Society, Savings:

???? YOU TRUST BUCKS WITH YOUR SAVINGS ????

I had had modest savings with Bucks Building Society since the 1990s. But then they took my savings away from me, only telling me when I phoned that the account had been closed. After a lot of worry that I had been scammed, it turned out that Bucks themselves had closed my account and taken my savings! The Financial Ombudsman Service advise me that there were a number of similar closures around this time. Well, I got my savings back .... eventually .... But then they reckoned I was only due £1.35 in interest. When I queried this, it turned out the correct figure was over £40! SO IF YOU WANT A SOCIETY THAT TAKES YOUR MONEY AWAY FROM YOU WITHOUT YOUR CONSENT, AND THEN TRIES TO GET AWAY WITH PAYING YOU A FRACTION OF THE INTEREST YOU ARE DUE, GO TO THE BUCKS! I corresponded directly with the Chief Executive, Board of Directors and Head of Operations after the problem became apparent. They took months dealing with things, and, when I further complained about their service, they took weeks looking into this and then the person who had dealt with the original case (Yes, the person I was complaining about!) reviewed the case and advised their service was perfect! .... (REALLY??? .... A RESPECTED FINANCIAL INSTITUTION THAT CALCULATES INTEREST AT £1.35 RATHER THAN OVER £40 .... PERFECT ?????) If I had not queried things, I would have been left with just £1.35 interest. And if I hadn't complained after discovering my money had been taken, I'd have had no savings, and no interest! I like that it has retained old style customer service (counter service) and values. Good communication both verbal and by post. Staff are friendly and helpful and it is very much a personal service rather than being obliged to use a machine. Reviewed on: 19th April 2023
