Claim handlers terrible..Won’t register complaint

Firstly before you read below the most worrying and disgraceful behaviour is that the co op home insurance company aren’t responding to my wish to make a complaint.Which legally they have to which is why I having to go to the ombudsman. Background I rang co op home insurance a few weeks ago about Nov 24 about an automatic home insurance renewal I was unaware about. We have been covered by another company for the previous year and have renewed again with them in September 24. The co op call handler cancelled the automatic renewal and advised me to email proof of the cover I had taken out with the other insurance companies for consideration of repayment. I sent clear proof of the cover I had with them.Note they asked me to do this. I told them I couldn’t access the coop on line portal to see what had happened and what we had ‘agreed too?’ Coop Call handler said there were known problems with customers getting/keeping access to the portal! Any new customers should be wise to this as well as all the other problems and hoops I have been asked to jump through and that’s been growing. Since providing the proof I have had a string of extra request for evidence. Starting with they wanted PDF documents and requesting ‘schedules’ of the insurance. In effect they want everything provided that they would send out of it was their own insurance. But I probably haven’t got everything laid out with my current insurance company exactly the same way as the CoOp. I asked them to send me proof of what insurance schedules documents I had apparently taken with them as much to help me understand what I need to get from my current insurance company, but they aren’t responding now. Nor will they respond to my request I have made twice now to make a complaint over the last fortnight. Really bad customer service and is a massive red flag along with the other problems I am encountering. Just look at the other negative comments about their current claim handlers. This is my experience. Reviewed on: 23rd December 2024

2 CLAIMS

One claim. One claim rejected as damage caused by neighbour's builder using off-road vehicle. Small print!! I had legal cover but company dealing with me wanted me to do all the work despite the fact that I sent them all relevant documents, photos, etc. Then they said I didn't have more than a 1% chance of winning the case. No approach was made to negotiate with owner of property or builder who did damage. Cost of my replacing shed is estimated to be £1,000. TOO MUCH SMALL PRINT!!! Then I had damage to carpets. This claim was accepted but carpet layers damaged new painted hallway, banisters, etc. So now I have to find a painter and another convenient time for work to be done. Premium has increased by huge amount. Is insurance worth it! Reviewed on: 24th August 2024

I recently received my renewal notice from the co-op from my home and contents insurance. It has increased by 303%. When I queried why it had increased to such an extent i was informed that they put all my details to a panel of insurers and that is the best price they could get. There was no explanation of why there was such a huge increase. We have not changed any details regarding our property or contents. Using a price comparison site we could find 25 offers and I was finally able to fix one at a reasonable rate of increase from the current year . I certainly couldn’t recommend the co-op for house and contents insurance . Reviewed on: 5th June 2024

Price hike for retired households.

Co-op has Increased prices for retired households with buildings and contents insurance. Are they penalising the elderly? There web page shows an elderly couple in the building and contents picture, should this be put to the advertising authority? Reviewed on: 9th November 2023

Useful insurance with helpful add ons

4
I always use Coop buildings and contents insurance. It seems competitive as long as you create a new policy each year (frustrating but common issue) rather than the auto renewal quote. The choice of add one is v helpful and the adjustable excess amounts. I’m especially glad of the bicycles cover with all risks away from Home option. Essential these days and very helpful when I had a claim once. Reviewed on: 30th August 2023

Competitive home insurance

4
If you need combined building and contents insurance with cycles included under all risks away from home this is a useful and competitive product. There are various add ons and introductory offers that can include extra legal cover. The downside is that each year you need to reapply for brand new insurance to get the best price.
