Good service, every day and every night
HSBC have been excellent when I've needed help with my account. they've always provided me with guidance when everything doesn't add up - also as a Welsh speaker I am able to converse in my native language with them

I have recently experienced the worst experience with HSBC Bank and can now officially say I believe customers who have written such reviews about the appalling customer service. My story to get to the point and to keep it brief is the following:
1. I applied for a loan, I then was referred to an underwriter called Rene - she made it clear they are the decision-makers of the loan. She then decided to proceed with my application and asked me to hold, where I was left on for more than 3 hours! I then was told based on my credit report they would not be able to lend. However, the story shocks me even further when I asked her what exactly has appeared considering I know from my current score being over 900 my Experian report. She then states the report is from Transunion - who I never heard of until I went online and downloaded a report. I then came to find that all my data was incorrect and mixed in with my sisters who does not live with me and holds a different surname which was shocking - they leaked all my sisters finances to me. Then when disputed with HSBC they stated they will not override the decision - took it to complaints which was another disgusting service whereby you are dealing with incompetent people in Sheffield call Centre! who are literally robotic in their responses. I will now be getting my lawyer involved and have had discussions with the ICO as this was a clear data breach and due to HSBC's negligence has not been resolved.Reviewed on 16th April 2020Private![]()
Always helpful
I have an HSBC Advance account which includes travel insurance, breakdown cover and gadget insurance. I have in the past had to claim on all of them and have always had the best service and conclusions.

Horrible
I don't understand how the bank supports anyone they don't let you have a overdraft after being a valuable customer for plus twenty years but are happy to charge 80 pound a week for as little as being overdrawn by a pound I don't like them at all

I'M ASHAMED THAT IT COSTS MONEY TO HAVE AN ACCOUNT.
I LIKE IT THOUGH ITS AN EXTRA £10 EACH MONTH. THATS £1200.00 OVER 10 YEARS, SOUNDS LIKE A LOT OF INTEREST.

Good extras
In my opinion the monthly fee is worthwhile as you receive travel insurance, mobile phone insurance and car breakdown cover.

I opened my first account about 10 years ago, the advisor gave me the talk about their 'advance account' and that this is the account for me (I started with saying all I need is a debit card and internet banking), nontheless I was given the advance account, because this is the only one that 'suits my needs', as this was my first ever account I didn't know anything about bank accounts, after about a year or two of me paying a monthly fee for the account with 'benefits' that I wasn't even using, I realized that non of my friends are charged for having a bank account, so I went into the branch and told them I don't want to pay for this, I had to tell the advisor several times as he continued to repeat the stuff about the amazing 'benefits' the account comes with, eventually the account was changed to a free account. I never even thought about this until last year, when I read up on packaged account misselling. I raised this with HSBC, they sent me an extremely detailed form to fill in and send back, which I did. A couple of weeks later I received a completely generic letter with points, non of which were relevant to my case, and statements like 'all of our advisors follow our process to the letter', suggesting that they never mis-sold a packaged account in the history of the company, all this in a tone suggesting I'm a liar and instead of raising this complaint I should have played with the toaster in the bathtub.
I was stunned, I did not expect this kind of treatment from the bank I have been with for over a decade, so the next day I opened a savings account at my other bank and moved all of my money out of HSBC.
Don't get me wrong they are an ok bank, the service is adequate, but if you have a problem, you are on your own, they don't care about you, they don't even want to hear about it.Reviewed on 11th September 2017Mark Holland![]()

I am ver Gratefull to the Bank for all the help given to me and my family throughout our lives both whilst working for a company and when going self employed then had advice which was exceptional so I will be eternally gratefull for the help I had at that stage of my life but theyo have helped us through out our lives so I will stay with them through retirement as well and I would never think of changing as they have and still are being good towards me.
Business accounts and with savings we have had help and good advice all through out lives and they even contact me when I make a paymentre they are concerned about so I am very Grateful towards them and will never change Bank as its the Only Bank for Me. Philip John
