Fixed Rate Saver cannot close during cooling off period

My Current Account Number – Sort Code 40-44-20 Account Number XXXXXXXX FXD Rate Saver Sort Code 40-22-85 Account Number XXXXXXXX I opened the above FXD Rate Saver investment for £20,000 on around 26/7/2024 Within a few hours I noticed that I had made a individual deposit while I intended making a joint investment with Mrs D Fernando, similar to my other deposit. This was a genuine mistake Within one day I called HSBC. The person who answered the first call said that the investment cannot be changed from individual to joint. Within one day called again and the person who answered said that the change could be done at a branch and made an appointment at Bromley Branch as the Orpington Branch did not have a diary at that time. I visited the Bromley Branch on 1/8/2024 and met a person at the back office and he mentioned that the deposit could not be changed from individual to joint, but could be closed without fee as it was within the cooling off period of 14 days and the monies credited back to my bank account. He made this statement after going through some documentation and spent quite some time reading the document before decision was made I was requested to write letter stating the above which I did and handed over the letter. He mentioned that the letter will be sent to the relevant department to take action As nothing had happened I visited the Orpington Branch on Monday 12/8/2024 and mentioned all what happened to an officer in the Orpington Branch. The officer mentioned that she would send a message to the Bromley Branch Officer. But she was also mentioning about a fee which was not mentioned by the Bromley Branch officer I wish to close the deposit. It is my money and I should be able to decide what I can do with my money. It seems that HSBC is holding me to ransom, by demanding a fee when there is a cooling off period as mentioned by the Bromley Branch officer Reviewed on: 13th August 2024

HSBC- SPINNING LIES SINCE 1865

I am currently waiting for them to review the validity of a default that appeared on my account, but it took about 8 phone calls to independent legal advisors to find a method of contacting the correct department, as anyone I called at HSBC would outright refuse to give me the information that it is my right to receive... AFTER 15 YEARS I HAVE COME TO EXPECT NOTHING LESS FROM HSBC They will attempt to manipulate you and discourage you from gaining any information from them, in almost every scenario you could imagine. I recommend anyone having issues they deem legally dubious to go straight to the FCA or Financial Ombudsman for advice on how to communicate with them regarding the issue. As I wait for HSBC to form some ebb of moral compass and respond to me , my offer on my first home and my mortgage has fallen through... *AVOID* *AVOID* *AVOID* #mindblown #customerdisservice #ruininglivessince1865 Reviewed on: 25th October 2016

Good Service

I've never had any problems with HSBC. When moving houses they transferred the details swiftly. They were one of the early banks which had a decent app where I can control all of my finances from. The app is updated quite often and its very easy to use. Since downloading the app a couple of years ago, I've rarely logged in to my account from my pc as I can do all I need from the app. Would recommend. Reviewed on: 14th October 2016

On Sunday night I noticed £350 taken from my account I was horrified.I called them straight away.It took 2 min to answer first call and about 5 min to be put through to the right team.I was told someone would call me back but decided to call them yesterday from my local bank.Waited about 7 min for someone to answer then a wait of about 15 min for him to sort something.Today at 6 in morn my £350 was back in my account has not even taken 3 days Thank you to all at the call centre for being so kind and sorting it so quickly for me.Well done to you all and much appreciated. I am a long-term customer of HSBC and always do my banking face-to-face, used to only a small branch which has excellent customer service. I was quite apprehensive to be notified that my local branch was closing however I have found the transfer of my accounts to the next nearest branch have all happened smoothly. In fact several of the staff I am familiar with have also transferred so (apart from having to travel almost twice as far) the excellent service has continued. I had a review meeting in my new branch to discuss my updated requirements and was pleased with the solutions offered. Reviewed on: 30th August 2016

Hard to access advice

I would appreciate less automated contact and more of a personalised experience. I found it difficult to find advice on what savings account would be best suited to my circumstances, and the website isn't as easy to navigate and compare accounts as those of other banks I've used. Bond just matured

This bond has just matured. Although the max is set at £250/month, it's a useful way of saving a little in time for the new ISA year. Reviewed on: 6th April 2015

Should be promoted more...great way to save a little each month

This type of product is great. Highish interest rate in the current market, and allows you to save £0-£250/month for a year. Helps to slowly build up some savings! Reviewed on: 6th March 2015
