Review of the NS&I, Income Bonds:

Easy to manage....but very low rates!

3
I recently decided to close this account with NS&I. Although the product was quite easy to manage online (I don't think I've ever need to call them), the rate offered is very low. I would look at reopening if the interest rates increased. Reviewed on: 6th April 2015

Preferable to a Savings Account.

I wanted another option other than a savings account. I was looking for a fixed term and guaranteed interest rate. The terms offered for one year and a good rate of interest Growth Bond was perfect when I opened the account. Reviewed on: 24th February 2024

Safe and sometimes market leading!

5
I happened to snag some Guaranteed Income Bonds at their peak interest rate which was excellent although not typical of NS&I's offerings as they are usually not chart-topping and it's worth remembering that unlike Premium Bonds Guaranteed Income Bonds are taxable for interest. Although NS&I is guaranteed by the treasury so people can rest easy on the security of their money. Reviewed on: 27th January 2024

Can't recommend - Worst Customer Service process.

It is now nearly two months since I asked them to resolve a problem with my account and many. many emails and phone calls later. I have had zero response except for emails failing to address the original query and thereafter 'holding emails' telling me my mail has been passed to customer services. They are either completely overloaded or are unable to work their systems efficiently. Reviewed on: 26th September 2023

Refuse access to funds and close account

1
Would be zero stars if possible. .... I tried to close my income bond and was told I would not be able to close the account or have access to my savings until their 'interest calculation' period had passed. This apparently lasts for 21 days of every month. How is this even legal? ..... And my balance is too low to even get interest - how is that legal either? .... Furthermore, despite lodging a request to close the account, NS&I refuse to act on it when the 'calculation period' is completed, and you just have to remember to request again. .... Utterly shambolic. Formal complain process has begun. I imagine I am en route to complaining to the Financial Ombudsman. Reviewed on: 2nd December 2021
