Good solid product not so solid website

NS&I may not be the trendiest or most eye catching financial institution but it has to be the most secure and dependable cos it's the Government. Interest rates are acceptable and the benefit is the Treasury is not likely to go bust. If you deal online via the NS&I website you need a lot of luck. Its like navigating the London Underground without a map and all the lights out. You will end up on the Central Line and probably reach maturity before your product does. They will send you a password before you are allowed in and if you don't use within 14 days will consider you have lost interest and cancel your subscription. Use their call centre instead. Its free, calls seem to be answered quickly and the service is good. I have invested but as yet have not tested their repayment procedure.Discounting their website, overall the rest of the service is good and the main advantage is the dependability of the provider. Probably the worst customer service of any company anywhere - ever!

Dreadful clunky set-up, resulting in persistent errors and continuous phone calls to try and sort things out, with the most unhelpful customer service. Reviewed on: 4th November 2016

Low-tech and clueless

Outdated IT, out-of-date phone numbers, clunky procedures, antiquated transfer mechanisms and card-payment applications = a goliath organisation that is completely out of touch with modern banking. Reviewed on: 4th November 2016

Put off for life!

I have been trying to get my son to save for years. Eventually he agreed to buy some savings bonds. NS&I requested id, passport, driving licence all signed by a professional. We did this and sent back - they stated they had it. Then sent out a request for more. Anyway they took more of his money - over the phone - then sent it back saying the account had been blocked for 21 days. We then received a letter from Customer Services Manager - Andreana Carrigan - stating that the account had been cancelled. But she would hope that we invest with NS&I in the future! I contacted customer services wanting to discuss with Andreana Carrigan - apparently she does not take calls! - when asked why they stated this was just a name the put on the letters and was not actually a person. THE WORST SERVICE I have ever encountered. Do not use these monkeys - they have not put my son of saving for life! I am furious. So disappointed. Reviewed on: 4th April 2016

Easy to manage....but very low rates!

I recently decided to close this account with NS&I. Although the product was quite easy to manage online (I don't think I've ever need to call them), the rate offered is very low. I would look at reopening if the interest rates increased. Reviewed on: 6th April 2015
