My experiences with Halifax vary.

1
My experiences with Halifax vary. I express dissatisfaction, highlighting challenges with online banking. I have kept a fixed amount of £5000 from Sept 2022 for entering a monthly draw, till date I have not even got a penny as a price money. I have done this in many banks in previously staying countries and I have won many cash prices but this is really........ Reviewed on: 7th March 2025

Halifax: We can do that! The Reality: NO WE CAN’T.

We like to save in separate accounts for different things. We opened 5 everyday saver accounts, you can only do this as an individual not joint although it says you can then convert them to joint afterwards. Only problem is… you can’t. Not in store, on the web, in the app or via the telephone. You just get pushed from one method to another, one department to another and it just cannot be done. I gave up as my blood pressure was approaching bursting point. Reviewed on: 26th February 2025

Pitiful savings rate

Savings rate is pitiful with Halifax, with many better options available. Makes me question Halifax commitment to rewarding customers, possibly exploiting their reputation as a trusted high street brand. Reviewed on: 6th February 2025

What a way to treat old people

1
My mother of 90 years who doesn't have WiFi rang Halifax to close her account and have her money transferred to her NatWest account. The lady said you can't close your account without a pin number she said she will send one then she can close her account. Five days later the pin number arrived. She then rang Halifax to close her account. The lady this time said you have to write to the account closing team. She wrote to the team saying she wants to close her account. When she got the reply it said she will have to send proof. So she sent proof of photo driving licence, disabled letter, and council tax letter. Then two weeks later another letter saying she needs to send utilities bill and more. It has been over eight weeks and they still won't transfer her money. She is now in hospital with a broken leg and shoulder after falling down and Halifax said she can close her account in the Halifax bank which is 15 miles away and she is bed ridden. What a disgusting way to treat old people just to keep their money. I have three accounts in Halifax and now closing them. Beware any old people Halifax will do their best to keep your money. Halifax have lost my money!

1
I tried to shut my regular saver account with them online on 7 Sept. Wasn't able do that online so I had to transfer all the funds to Everyday saver. Odd but true. Tried to shut down the everyday saver account and I plugged in my bank details for money transfer. A very brief black error message floated across the page saying couldn't do it. I contacted online message chat who assured me they had shut the account down. I said clearly in my message you can't do this as you don't have my bank details where to send my money so I expected them to request them. They didn't ask me for my bank details which i expressly said I would need to give them. Now my everyday saver account says £0!! Messaging service also got rid of me and said couldn't help me but I really don't trust them at all. I now have no money in my accounts / it's gone in a puff of smoke!!! Several calls to customer service on 8 Sept all telling me different things. Eg systems down, IT faults and they all contradicted each other. Couldn't help me. Told me to visit a branch. Visit to Halifax Watford branch on 9 Sept who told me they had no idea what's wrong and can't help me!! Said they will investigate & contact me soon.... wrote my details on a scrap of paper! Don't hold out any hope. No case reference no timeframe no procedure or complaints procedure going forward given. Not explained if I'm in a proper complaint system. No hope of a resolution. Couldn't get rid of me fast enough. Perhaps it's internal fraud? How can no one a large institution not be able to help me and how can they lose my money?! I did phone the fraud Department who said unable to help me. No one seems to be able to help me and I'm extremely stressed Reviewed on: 10th September 2024

Easiest savings account to understand and use!

With Halifax everyday saver it’s easy to transfer money in, set up a standing order with a variation of frequencies to send money, it has a “save the pennies” option which rounds up your spend to the nearest pound and saves it for you so you’re saving without noticing much! Which is brilliant if you’re someone who struggles to save, the interest you build is also higher if you don’t withdraw within a year, it is still reasonable even if you do which is great, easy to set up on the app and use especially if you already have an account with them! Little awkward and poor rates

Halifax worked okay in the background and the app was okay, even without a current account. However, closing an account in-trust seemed a bit of a hassle and staff were friendly but not sure how to handle things which resulted in numerous visits. Telephone staff are also a little unhelpful and just always refer in-branch. Credit cards also randomly decline. Rates also leave a lot to be desired. Reviewed on: 11th March 2024
