Proving cause of death whilst abroad

My husband died whilst on holiday in Menorca on 8 October 2023. Customers should be made away that no cause of death is permitted on death certificates in Spain. Trying to prove that my husbands death was accidental as opposed to an underlying cause such as a heart attack is still ongoing. It’s cost me a fortune having to travel back to Menorca just to prove he drowned (personal accident) as opposed to something else and still no decision/nor payout. Reviewed on: 24th October 2024

As I am 80 years old I booked insurance with them at great cost. I trusted their name and what a big mistake this was. Unfortunately I had a fall and was concerened about concussion as i vomited a few days later. They told me they would book a dcotor to come after waiting nearly 2hours this changed to a video consultation and then the doctor did not even join the video call. After half an hour on hold I rang Saga to be told just go to A&E. The doctor service is apparently nothing to do with them so nothing they can do!!! I left and went to A&E and after almost an hour the doctor joined the caht whivch my friend ansered he told them it was unacceptable and was told what are you going to do? I would give a zero score if it was possible. Disgusting service Unhelpful call answerers and they merely delayed any help I needed by hours. Waste of time for elderly peoples insurance

I chose saga travel insurance with it being for older people that they would know how to look after people especially with the prices they charge. We went away after booking with them but unfortunately my husband lost his hearing aid, when we contacted them we were informed we were not covered for this which amazed me as most people that go with this company do so as they are meant to be for older people Reviewed on: 26th December 2023

A total shambolic and dysfunctional company

A total shambolic and dysfunctional company. Do not use them for travel insurance. They have managed to leave my elderly parents stuck in Majorca for 4 weeks now after my Dad was cleared to come home from hospital. And the previous claim for a cancelled holiday due to my Dads illness took them 4 months to process and pay out. Reviewed on: 10th November 2023

Do not use their holiday insurance.

Had faith until taken ill and needed to make claims. Then it showed policy is worthless. They use on Astrenska,who use Collinson Insurance to handle claims. They don't answer the phone but text you to go on line. Finally got paper copies, sent back 9 May. Suddenly email on 23 may for more information. They received it 25 May. Since then nothing. No replies to my emails, or letters. No updates. Suggest you look at reviews on COLLINSON Insurance company. Saga say they are short of staff When needed, found to be wanting. Take heed. Saga still pushing these policies. And a line in their quote, says how easy it is for you to process a claim. BE WARNED . Reviewed on: 14th June 2023

Misleading product selling

Saga proudly claim that their all Saga Travel Insurance policies cover cruises as standard. This is grossly misleading as the policy does not cover one of the most regualr issues affecting cruises, missed ports. Missed port cover is standard in most cruise policies, yet Saga claim that it is the responsibility of the provider. What Saga really provide is normal travel insurance that can be used whilst on a cruise, not specifically tailored cruise insurance. My fault for not checking every eventuality, I was beguiled by the marketing! Reviewed on: 19th April 2023

Don't be fooled

Saga travel regularly receives five star reviews from people who are astonished at how easy it to arrange, that is, how easy it is to hand their money over to Saga. When it comes to making a claim, however, invariably, one finds that the cover, the basis on which one took out the insurance in the first place, is an illusion. I took out travel insurance based on a summary of coverage which included 'Replacement flights up to £1,500' I received a 12 page policy document AFTER I had paid the premium, a fact in itself which must eventually lead to a challenge in the courts, in which there was nothing that could have led me to doubt that I was covered for replacement flights up to £1,500. However, when my BA flights were cancelled, with replacement flights offered so far in the future, relative to the length my holiday, that accepting them would have entailed an unacceptable loss, I purchased replacement flights for an amount far exceeding the value of the BA flights. I believed at the time that at least some of this loss would be reimbursed by Saga. On making a claim, however, I was referred to page 20 of the fine print (my policy document was 12 pages) informing me that no such cover was in place and that I was entitled to a few pounds for every 12 hours of lost holiday, plus refreshments and phone calls. Inveigling people to sign a contract and pay the consideration on the basis of a summary of cover, only to later adduce details not evident before the contract was signed, details which contain all the criteria and caveats that negate that summary of cover is, in effect, obtaining money by deception. Saga insurance is so easy to arrange precisely because the risk to them of actually paying out is so small. Reviewed on: 6th August 2022

Ridiculous price

Paid £700 to insure my husband and me for 5 week trip to Australia. Expensive but my husband has prostate cancer that has been treated and is now managed by hormone injections every 3 months. Tried to insure again for a 12-day holiday in the Dominican Republic for a family wedding. Quoted £1780. Rang to argue that he would not need treatment in those 12 days but was told ‘computer says no.’ No discussion. The whole point of Saga is insurance for the elderly but when it costs as much as the tickets, it’s ridiculous. Now insured for half the price with ‘Staysure’. Reviewed on: 30th July 2022

wont pay when you had medical emergency

My wife had a trip to Turkey for one month and I insured her for 45 days and chose Saga as which magazine recommended them. Policy nr:337277. Durin the trip she got sever infection Shingles and went to see a doctor and received some medication and now she has a scar on her face and her back as a result of this infection. when we send the claim Saga refused to accept it saying that the cost of Dr visit and medication is below the excess. Although the exchange rate at the it means they do not pay you for after care that she needs in UK to get rid of the scars she has got if she can! and nothing for the pain and suffering ! Disappointed
