Review of the Vitality, Health Insurance:

A Vitality policy means will always pay in the end

1
My insurance started in 2017 with a premium of just over £315 per month for my husband and I. Our renewal quote for 2023/24 is £724 per month (from £515 for the past year). Our premium has gone up without fail every year by around 25%; this year, it is an increase of just under 41%. Our crime? Me getting and then surviving breast cancer and then in 2022 having a minor obstetric procedure. My cancer, thanks only to the NHS, was caught very early so I have only had to have a yearly scan and check-up by my Oncologist since a 2017 lumpectomy and radiation treatment. This was followed by 5 years of cancer-free scans. By the way, I'm 58, 5'7, weighing 61kg, a surfer, kiteboarder, and wing foiler. I am incredibly fit and healthy and I wear a fitness tracker; I'm absolutely Vitality's target client, yet they've been ruthless. Even given my level of activity, I've only managed to get to Bronze status so looking at my activity level, I must assume that you have to be an olympic athlete to get higher points. When I had my initial cancer diagnosis, Vitality spent time trying to prove that I knew about it before taking out the policy. My diagnosis was on March 7th 2018 and I took the policy out in Sept 2017. I didn't know and my GP confirmed it, but not before Vitality caused me a huge amount of extra unnecessary stress on top of a devastating cancer diagnosis making me go to the GP to request documents to prove I wasn't lying. They later apologised and sent me flowers. If you do need a check-up for anything, Vitality is set up to make it difficult/time consuming to achieve 'approval' (I'm sure you will be familiar with the waiting message 'we are receiving a very high volume of calls at the moment, blah blah blah'). The last time I wrote a bad review on Vitality, they spent months trying to have it removed, reporting that I had made a mistake in posting to the 'wrong' company. If you are reading this it's because you are looking for Vitality customer's opinions. Here's my advice, don't buy a Vitality policy; it's better to put those ever-increasing premiums in a savings account of your own in case you need future treatment or find a less ruthless insurance provider who understands risk. Vitality will punish you and claw back any costs they incur in your premiums. No-one in their right mind would think that 25% year on year increases followed by a 41% increase is reasonable. Even Usay Compare who have handled my policy are aghast at the level of my premium increases. It's clearly a company strategy to do this as when I asked for the minor procedure permission, they had to warn me in a carefully worded policy script that any treatment I had 'would effect my premium'. So please bear in mind the following: insurance should always present a 'risk' for the company providing it. Some people don't claim at all. For example, my husband has not claimed a single £'s worth of treatment since we took out the policy ; hasn't even seen a doctor. Vitality don't offer him a discount for not making a claim, but they have penalised me excessively. My premiums have now totalled almost as much as any treatment received. That seems to be the aim/policy of Vitality. They don't take a risk with their customers, they simply claim back the cost of having you as a client by increasing your premiums. I'm in the process of renewing now with Bupa and I'm told my premium will be under £300 per month with continued cancer cover, just in case. I'm not remotely interested in hearing 'from the team' as Vitality have written below. Previous complaints over the years have all fallen on deaf ears; the level of premium increases have never relented but this year's increase will finally drive me away as a customer: I think that's what they've wanted all along but as a cancer survivor moving insurance is very tricky until you are at least 5 years cancer free. AWFUL INSURANCE COMPANY STAY AWAY

1
Private insurance is there to be seen immediately. Vitality did not have adequate dermatologists to be seen for my daughter within a week. Not only that , they failed to advise that we could book the appt ahead of ensuring the claim had been accepted. Terry White is an awful complaints officer and should work for the Local Authority as his empathy , understanding and support t during difficult times and systematic failures of vitality is like he is not paid by a company but by the state. Poor customer service.

1
Poor customer service. The agents are friendly and try and help. but then the systems are updated, but this is not reflected in the online portal, so you have to call again. Long story short, after 4 weeks of trying to get support, I found out I was wrongly supported, and in fact can not be helped, so not only is my issue exacerbated my the messing around, but I'm in a worse mental and financial position. very disappointed. If you want free coffees and a apple watch great, go for it, if you want health cover I would recommend going somewhere else, my last company used AXA, who were leads above vitality. I turned to Vitality after being unable to get an NHS GP appointment for over two weeks. I got a private GP appointment through them, who referred me to a specialist. I provided Vitality with the referral immediately, who proceeded to organise the specialist, booked my appointment etc but after incurring £2,000 in fees, they now come back refused to approve the referral, claiming I needed an NHS GP referral. This contradicts their terms, which only require “a GP referral.” Despite providing my medical history, they created unnecessary barriers, violating FCA rules on fair treatment. My complaint was ignored, and their response referred to non-existent terms. The issue is now with the Financial Ombudsman. Appalling service focused on gimmicks over core healthcare. Poor comms - nice App, Broken Promises, Broken Trust.

Broken Promises, Broken Trust. Don't be fooled by the flashy rewards app! While they offer lots of incentives and rewards, their actual insurance is a nightmare. They make claiming incredibly difficult, and their customer service is appalling. The claims team makes promises to write back with information but never does, leaving you in the lurch. My experience has been incredibly disappointing. For the business medical insurance we had purchased, as a director, I wish I had picked an insurer that values communication and honours its commitments. As a business owner, I feel we've gone down the wrong road in selecting Vitality for the company's medical benifit. Reviewed on: 20th November 2024

Avoid at all cost, better Health Companies out there!!

1
My Company decided to give it a go and enroll this year with Vitality, for the past 15 years we used mainly Axa ppp and other providers such Bupa. These big companies are expensive however they take the stress away in terms of approving claims or consultations. Never had problems in the past. Unfortunately for me Vitality so far only offered a poor service. As other reviewers mentioned the amount informations requested plus involving GP on obtain records only elongate the process; reason why people use Private health insurance is to actually avoid these long wait to see a GP and been referred as soon as possible.Just so you know if you ask your Gp to fill up the records forms it will take up to 4 weeks and also you have to pay a fee to your surgery. So you might be quicker booking an appointment with your Gp than fill these forms !!! The frustrating part is the fact we took the full package from vitality and covering also existing condition however at the time of the switch you must forecast if you might have present conditions that might develop into something that requires additional consultations, basically they will do everything in their power to avoid claims!! So to everyone thinking to switch to Vitality ]bear in mind that you might encounter issue when making a claim. By the way my referral was approved by Vitality online GP and still wants more informations by my Gp, Definitely no worth the stress on taking a cheaper Company which only interest is on saving money. Vitality tech is a disaster.

1
Vitality tech is a disaster. They will put your premium up if you do not record sufficient activity... however, their tech is so terribly unreliable that you'll be regularly submitting screenshots to get Vitality to manually register activity, as it will routinely fail to sync/register activity. Trying to resolve it by seeking support on the website/app is a frustrating cycle of broken links, buttons that don't work, and repeatedly having to log in. The customer support channels are dreadful too. It all makes for an appalling customer experience, and I wish I'd never joined them Reviewed on: 30th September 2024

I believe I was mis sold my policy this year, I was told there would be new benefits added which influenced me to renew however over 6 months later there haven't been any new benefits, in fact, more and more benefits are being removed. Also, at renewal, the only offer they made to me to reduce a premium - after 30 years with Vitality with no claims - was to increase my excess. Reviewed on: 23rd August 2024
