Review of the Yorkshire Bank, Current Account:

Going down fast

2
I have banked with Yorkshire Bank for over 40 years. They have now decided they do not want my business and moved my account to Virgin Money. No reasoning has been given. Their Customer Services used to be OK, if sometimes a little hard to understand with the Scottish accents. They closed my local branch and told me to use another, then closed this and told me to use a 3rd, then just closed this one without telling me! My current and credit card accounts were visible together on the website and app, I now have to have 2 different apps, with different log in details, to see what is happening. I used to ping money direct from my current account to my credit card, I now have to set it up as a separate payee. I seriously doubt this bank will be around much longer. Love my bank!

I love my Yorkshire Bank people, never a drama, never had anything but good things from them, they even had the chance to charge me a couple of times but didn't. Can't say I've ever been happy with a bank before moving there. Reviewed on: 11th February 2016

Up close and Personal

I know it's a cliche but, this bank is second to none for making you feel wanted; for listening; for being helpful without being patronizing. First name terms with the staff and the manager and all I've ever done is have my wages paid in each month. I have been offered help numerous times --and not with the usual flyers, face to face. I cannot fault them and cannot see a move likely. Reviewed on: 31st January 2016

Best bank I've been with. Fair and helpful.

I've been with several banks and always felt they were doing me a favour letting them keep my money from me. Any problems were a struggle. None of that has been true with Yorkshire, I've had problems like losing ATM/debit cards at times where it was very inconvenient and despite them saying a new one would take a week, it's taken a couple of days each time now. The problems I was going to have due to lack of a card I didn't even have to ask about, the staff were on it telling me before I asked. There have been a couple of times that I went overdrawn accidentally for a day or so, always the other banks leapt on this and sent me letters and charges were pretty savage for this, YB sent me a letter, no charge, no problems at all. I just realized writing this that apart from the great service there's another thing I like. Something missing that irritated me with other banks. Sales, they don't push you into buying anything at all, not once. I'd recommend Yorkshire Bank to anyone. Reviewed on: 31st December 2015

Is loyalty costing me?

I have been a customer of Yorkshire Bank for over 40 years, Their slogan way back was, 'Friendliness,.......We built a bank on it'. At that time, it indeed was friendly, then it was taken over by National Australia Bank in 1990 and it has not been the same ever since. From the introduction of telephone/internet banking, I seldom go in to a branch preferring to go on-line. The telephone banking in my opinion leaves a lot to be desired, mainly the it's the waiting time to be connected to a representative. In fact it has come to the point where I will do all I can to avoid using this method. My wife works for 'First Direct Bank', and doesn't understand my loyalty, but after all these years, telephone banking is the only aspect I have an aversion to. Maybe I might reconsider on my 50th anniversary of banking with them !!!!! Reviewed on: 22nd November 2015

Always easy banking with Yorkshire Bank

I have been with the Yorkshire Bank for about 15 years now and they have never given me a reason to want to change banks. I was having problems paying in certain places with my Maestro Debit Card so I went into the bank and they very quickly explained they could change my card to a Mastercard Debit Card which was changed extremely quickly and has made shopping a lot easier. Always helpful. Never had to wait on the phone to be able to speak to anyone. Web site is very easy to use. Reviewed on: 20th November 2015

SO SO

Having started off writing this review with 2* in mind, I've upped it to 3* as really they are not that bad, just not particularly great. The pros? Free account and face-to-face servicing when I need it. The cons...not offering good short/medium savings options is an issue for me. I also feel that they don't do enough digitally to make banking easier. Reviewed on: 29th September 2015

A really good experience and time well spent

I switched to Yorkshire Bank's Current Account Direct which promised 2% AER (1.98% gross p.a. variable) on your credit balances up to £3,000. I used their switching service. It took about 25 minutes and within a few days I was up and running and with a nice £150 bonus in my new account to boot. All my direct debits, standing orders and payees transferred across and everything went perfectly. The best 25 minutes spent this year! The only small drawback was that although the account can be managed online, it had to be set up in branch. There was a branch within 10 minutes walk so it was no problems and it was nice for once to speak to a human being. Reviewed on: 13th August 2015
