I had a terrible experience with Domestic and General when my boiler broke down in the middle of winter, leaving me with no heating or hot water while temperatures outside were below zero. After their engineers assessed the issue, they deemed the boiler beyond repair and said I needed a replacement. Domestic and General arranged for two of their approved engineers to provide quotes, but one of them completely ignored me despite multiple follow-ups, and the other gave me a quote that was £4,000 more expensive than a Gas Safe registered engineer I found privately. Their inability to provide a fair and timely quote left me with no choice but to go ahead with my own engineer to get the heating restored as soon as possible. According to their own terms and conditions, I was entitled to a £750 voucher towards a new boiler, and nowhere does it state that I must use their overpriced engineers to claim it. However, Domestic and General have now refused to honor this, trying to fob me off because I didn’t use their engineer—who was massively overcharging! This company is running a scam. They leave you stranded in freezing temperatures, push you towards ridiculously overpriced services, and then refuse to honor their own policies. Their customer service is awful, with no help or accountability. Avoid Domestic and General at all costs! Read more Read less

Absolutely Unacceptable: Engineer No-Show TWICE

I am beyond furious with the disgraceful service I have experienced. I booked a repair with you, and on not one but TWO occasions, your engineer failed to show up or even have the basic courtesy to call. This is despite my providing clear instructions and your team's repeated reassurances that the first failure would not happen again. Your incompetence has wasted my time and tested my patience to the limit. I took time off work twice, waiting 4-6 hours each time, only to be completely ignored. This is not just unprofessional; it is outright unacceptable and shows a complete lack of respect for your customers. I demand immediate action to: Reschedule the repair at a time that is entirely convenient for me. Provide a full explanation for this appalling failure. Ensure that your team takes this issue seriously and does not waste another second of my time. I expect to be contacted immediately to resolve this, or I will have no choice but to escalate this matter further. Your service has been nothing short of a disgrace, and I demand a proper resolution NOW. Date of experience: 28 January 2025 Read more Read less

Fault found after 15 months. Engineer from Pacifica came expecting to fix a Belling Electric Oven (which is in our caravan) Said he would get new thermostat, then wrote to say job completed, then emailed to say they dont fix Hotpoint Cookers. Now spent 1.5 hours on premium rate phone calls & cannot get anywhere, even on supposedly live chat. Engineer said D&G regulary make mistakes. Retailer said they would not use them. Not even an address to write to on their policy document. Dire! Read more Read less

Dealing with Domestic and General through my Whirlpool warranty has been one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had with an appliance repair service. After two previous visits that didn’t resolve the issue, I was left hanging on a third appointment, scheduled for a 1-4 PM window. Despite calling twice to confirm, I was repeatedly told the technician was on the way—only to find out later that this was not true. The office had already closed (on Eastern time), leaving me unable to ensure I was rescheduled for the next day. When I called again to follow up, I was informed that the parts had been returned to the warehouse and I’d have to wait another four days to reschedule. At this point, I requested that Domestic and General just write me a check so I could replace the fridge. After three weeks without a working fridge, we needed to be able to keep food in the house. They refused, claiming the repair technician hadn’t designated the fridge as non-repairable—which is a lie. The technician clearly told me that only Whirlpool’s tech support has the authority to deem it unrepairable. The representative I spoke with was incredibly rude and dismissive, saying, “I don’t care, sir. This isn’t how it works,” and showed no interest in finding a solution. It’s been almost three weeks since the initial visit, and our fridge is still broken. If I could give negative stars for their service, I would, because they certainly don’t deserve even one. I took insurance out with Domestic and General when I bought a treadmill from Argos during Covid. This year the touch screen stopped working altogether contacted them. They sent out a new screen and arranged for an engineer to fit it. When he came he identified another problem with the wiring that meant that the new screen broke whilst he was fitting it. He ordered another screen and relevant parts and came back a couple of weeks later to fit them. It was as good as new. Great product and service Read more Read less

Been with them for just over 12 months since having new Baxi boiler fitted. Was sold the warranty under the premise of a hassle free life with regards to the boiler. Had an issue, and had nothing but hassle. They did sort it eventually, but after a tussle. Now waiting for a letter, apparently, to give me a code to get my boiler it's annual service, which is all part of the plan. Boiler now almost a month overdue it's service, still no letter. I'll give them until the end of June then I'll doubtless have to take them on, again. And yes, although I don't doubt it will get done, it's just not hassle free. Read more Read less
