I found it simple to set up this account via the online banking service of my existing current account with HSBC, and I can access it on the same screen to move money with ease and check the current balance. The interest rate is poor, but I trust the bank and in the current financial climate, I found few places offering better rates.

Getting reliable service from 5 years. Although the staff is untrained. If you go 3 times for the same reason and speak with 3 different staff member they say 3 different stories

I've been a customer for 5 years now it's quite good bank. Although the staff is untrained. If you go 3 times for the same reason and speak with 3 different staff member they say 3 different stories better luck in searching on the internet.

I've held a regular saver with HSBC for 3 years and will continue to do so until the rates become uncompetitive. The regular saver pas a good rate of interest, is easy to open and easy to manage at the annual maturity. I communicate with HSBC via secure message for this account and have found them to be prompt and efficient. I would recommend this account to anyone trying to get a bit more bang for their buck in this low interest rate market

After holding an account with HSBC for 16 years and facing ongoing disappointment with savings rates and options and share dealing services I spoke to ten about leaving and they said that I would face significant charges to transfer my share holdings and did nothing to address my concerns, nor did they express any desire to retain my custom. As a loyal customer I expected more, I've since moved all of my services to another provider, although j do use the regular saver with HSBC as it pays a vaguely competitor rate.

The online staff work hard to explain and show things but the site is more fussy and complicated than another company I used which would be the only negative I'd have.

Safe Place to Save

Although the interest rate is very low, as with most savings accounts with most banks, I'm quite happy to be saving with HSBC as I think it is one of the more stable banks, so it feels quite safe. It is easy to use their online banking services and I can pay in, or transfer money, easily and the customer service is very good.

I have learned the hard way that when applied to savings the term "variable" only means one thing: guaranteed to go down¹. 7 months after openinig an ISA with HSBC the advertised interest rate of 3% was surreptitiously dropped to less than 1%. Why such deceitful tactics in banking?

After 12 months, I have transferrred my ISA to Virgin Money who offer a slightly higher interest rate.

¹ when applied to borrowing, the term "variable" has the opposite meaning.

Great bonus from HSBC

As an Advantage (and I also believe Premier) account holder with HSBC eligible to a loyalty ISA which whilst the rate isn't very good (but where is!) does offer you a bonus of £10 per month - given I'm only paying in the minimum £25 then extra £10 a mo...

additional bonus for premier customers

I received a letter from HSBC offering to upgrade to premier current account which would then give me a bonus on my loyalty ISA. I now receive an extra £10 per month over and above normal interest on my ISA - certainly worth having.
