Review of the HSBC, Premier Bank Account:

A brilliant service

Having moved over recently I can say their customer service has been excellent. They have also been superb at dealing with any issue. The app is quite modern and does what it needs to Reviewed on: 17th March 2023

terrible service, inflexible and unhelpful

HSBC sent us a KYC pack to fill in, in spite of us having been customers for over 20 years. We had just moved house and explained than we did not yet have the required utility bills to provide them with proof of address. They froze the account, stopped an incoming deposit and bounced all the direct debits. Customer services just kept repeating the same nonsense about their procedures. We closed the account. HSBC refused to transfer the direct debit details to our new account, saying we still had not complied with their KYC procedures. I will never recommend them to anyone. Thinking of switching

Have been without internet banking as my secure key has given up and branch had 'run out' last time I walked past one that was open. Call today took 5 min to be answered. In the grand scheme of things not that bad...but calls to premier banking are normally answered much quicker 15-30 secs. Reviewed on: 17th December 2016

Persevered lot but still getting worse

HSBC ask you to reach Premier status. Premier lounges in Airports - well good luck with that. Now charge you £30 for transactions over 10k. So 50k in to reach Premier account status but Co-Op and Santander allow you to transfer 100k without charges and even after that limit it is still cheaper than being a Premier holder with HSBC. There is absolutely no benefit other than a headache you will get for that service Reviewed on: 5th December 2016

Better...

My personal secure key had come to the end of its life (I had it for years), so needed a new one. Branch staff wee helpful and the process of setting it up worked. Not sure why secure keys are still needed though... Reviewed on: 14th September 2016

nobody at HSBC seem's able to help

1
I Had a few minor problems with the bank and decided it may be worth upgrading to a premier account as it appeared to offer better benefits and service. I rang and applied and after a combined hour of waiting and speaking to several people they decided that were too busy and promised a call back within 2 days. Of course they did not do this and instead I had to contact the bank again this time to be told they did not deal with these applications but just walk into any branch and it could be done there and then I live in a rural area and work long hours so getting to the bank is always problematic but I did as I was told and was then told they were too busy and had nobody to help and I should ring instead! I explained all that had happened and was told they would find somebody straight away. Two hours later I was still waiting, I walked over to the booth's where the staff meet with customers to find they had all gone to lunch I left at this point Reviewed on: 10th July 2016

Locked out of my account today!

The HSBC site appears to be down today...not letting me even log on, let alone see any of my account info! Reviewed on: 18th January 2016

Not really the World's local bank

I am a student in London but my family lives in Hong Kong. About a year ago I had the most ridiculous experience of my life. I was in Hong Kong about to go on to China to spend a month doing an important internship. In order to get the visa to China, I had to obtain travel insurance. No problem: HSBC Premier offers a travel insurance along with Premier membership. Fantastic! The visa desk, however, required proof. Okay, I'll just go to the bank and get a signed certification from them. Upon arrival I explain my problem at the Premier desk and I'm told they cannot help me because despite also being a Premier customer in Hong Kong, my travel insurance was linked to my UK card. They tell me to call HSBC Premier in the UK. As I was reluctant to spend dozens of pounds on international calls, they were kind enough to lend me a phone – until they closed at half past noon. So there I was in desperate need of getting my visa before my flight, waiting to get a very simple piece of paper from HSBC. And sure enough, as I spoke to the HSBC Premier UK call centre in Scotland, explained to them my problem and its urgency, they told me not to worry and that they would send it to me immediately." Great!" – no. They were going to send it to me at my UK home address by post and it would arrive in the next 3-5 days. "How does this help me? I'm in Hong Kong. Hello?" So I suggest: "Can you email it to me?" "No Sir I can't do that..." "Really? Ah, it's rather simple: you prepare the letter you were originally going to send to my home in the UK, but instead of sending it, you take the paper out of the envelope, put it in a scanner, scan and email it to me." "Sorry Sir, I can't do that, it goes against our security policy." "Okay well how about you email or fax it to your branch here in Hong Kong and I can receive it from your colleagues over here?" "That won't be possible Sir! We can only send it to you personally by mail. If you like we can register a new address and we will send it to your Hong Kong address?" Uninterested by the prospect of waiting two weeks to get a travel insurance, I told HSBC Premier to forget it and spent £100 on another travel insurance. All in all the World's local bank is an international mess, strongly lacking in cooperation between branches internationally. HSBC Premier is a waste of time, but hey, at least I got to have free coffee. Reviewed on: 12th January 2016
