I have just came to the end of my previous fixed deal and have renewed on a new 2 year fixed deal with RBS. They offered the best deal for my LTV on the market. I have had no problems with RBS. The only problems i have had is even though they have an online portal you are limited to what you can complete online. I tried to change the date of my monthly payments but it required a phone call to confirm it. It seems that whatever you do online needs confirming manually by post or phone before it is applied.

We attended a mortgage interview with my local branch of RBS to work out how much we could borrow, get an idea of repayment costs etc. Having already had one with Santander we had a fair idea of what to expect - or so we thought. I should make it clear that the Assistant was very polite, warm, funny (maybe not intentionally) and tried to help as much as possible. Unfortunately for some reason they gave us an Assistant with only basic mortgage training who was not empowered to give us any actual figures. She could tell us how much we could borrow but could not even give us an estimate on repayment costs despite the fact I could look this info up for myself using my mobile during the interview. The fun part came with her giving us a complete run down on her personal life. I know WAY more than I ever needed to know about her ex-partner and her delightfully lazy son who plays computer games all day in his pants.... Entertaining - yes. Useful - no!

I am coming towards the end of my 2 year fixed rate mortgage with RBS. I took out a 95% mortgage using the governments help to buy scheme. RBS were very efficient at moving the mortgage process along, we got a homebuyers report through RBS. The surveyors responded with some incorrect details but RBS was quick to get this corrected and move further along.

Customer service is excellent and taking out a mortgage was straightforward.
I found RBS mortgages website very slick and easy to use. When I took out my mortgage I had questions about how flexible they would be if I wanted to rent out my house in the future so I spoke to them at length about this and they were very helpful.... Read more
I found RBS mortgages website very slick and easy to use. When I took out my mortgage I had questions about how flexible they would be if I wanted to rent out my house in the future so I spoke to them at length about this and they were very helpful. I now manage my mortgage online and they send me an annual statement so my experience of RBS mortgages has been straightforward throughout.

Locked in a good rate...so pretty happy
The buying process took 5 weeks, but the rate I was offered was really good. Fixed rate mortgages are the way to go.
